Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and Bob Segar. Some people want to lump Tom Petty into this genre. Personally, I don't think he fits...at all. If so, Tom Petty would win in a landslide, but nonetheless...

Also, if I'm leaving an artist out, please feel free to include them in your rankings.

Springsteen is a yankee fig who hates amurica. So he out. Out of the other two I'll take Segar over Johnny Cougar in a tight race.

Springsteen
Mellencamp

Bob Seger still sounds great even now. I would pay to listen to him sing the words out of an old encyclopedia, if that's what he wanted to do lol.

While I never really cared for the song, I always thought the lyrics to Little Pink Houses was a wonderful commentary on life in America. Again, Blood on the Scarecrow tells another story unique to rural America. Segar and Mellencamp had a way of capturing that like few others who experienced mainstream success.

Segar was the better vocalist of the three. Mellencamp was average and a terrible dancer but his sound was really good, Springsteen couldn't sing and I never understood why he got as popular as he did.

These responses are shocking. Much of this is subjective and these type of differences make the world go around... but Springsteen has a better overall catalogue than the other two combined. Even if you subtract Bruce’s mega hits and recent material...the body of work from Greetings through the River is miles better than anything by the other two. Shocking.

I think everyone understands that Springsteen has a superior resume than the other two. But these responses are opinions of what artists they grew up listening to. I was never a fan of Springsteen because no one in my family cared for his voice or music. But if a certain Mellencamp song comes on then the volume goes up and sometimes with Segar.
