Meh it was headed for appeals regardless of this dick bag judge’s decision.

The only losers are the people that held a legal vote to approve this and are being told “sorry we know better “

What the hell was the point of the vote then if the final decision is made by a judge who doesn't want to see Baton Rouge suffer while St. George prospers?
It is great evidence of what the people wanted. Unfortunately that doesn't mean it is legally binding.

Regardless, this judge is just kicking the can up the road for the court of appeals and/or supreme court to decide it.

First Circuit
Louisiana Supreme Court

The size if the check that will have to be written to StG gets bigger the longer this drags out.

This is actually a really good fricking question right now. Does the LA Constitution not have a balance of powers like the Federal Government?

Time for the SG'ers to sing "Hello Texas!"

We tried. It didn't work. Now come on, get in the car. Houston awaits!

The US system is a joke with the single judge decision. It should be a minimum 3 judge panel for all cases.

WTF kind of logic is this? It can’t be both.

The federal constitution also allows courts to override votes of the people.

And for dubious reasons, apparently.

I don't think it's up to him to decided if a city can or can't balance it's books. It's up to him, in my non-legal mind, to decide if the election was lawful, tallied correctly.

He's making law, not enforcing it. This is the type shite that will make people overthrow their 'government'. perhaps.

How do people in Central, Baker, Zachary, and Baton Rouge have the right to live in an incorporated city but the people or St George don’t?

The people voted on this. WTF?

This was always going to the Louisiana Supreme Court. They are ruling is the only one that will matter.

Did the judge actually give a written opinion on the matter? Can we look up his ruling on LA court websites or something? I know it’s asking a lot here in Louisiana..
