Seems to be common among the young folks these days.

Failure to register is a felony and non-registrants may be denied the following benefits for life:
- State-based student loans and grant programs in 31 states
- Federal job training under the Workforce Innovation and - Opportunity Act (formerly Workforce Investment Act)
Federal (and many state and local) jobs
- Up to a 5-year delay of U.S. citizenship proceedings for immigrants

My grandfather would have disowned me in 2003 when my time came up to sign up.
Distinctly remember him driving up at our house to ask me and my dad if it was done a week after my birthday.
He was WWII USMC combat vet

Same thing I've told my daughters... I will not OK a marriage to someone that hasn't signed up.

I'm old enough to remember having to sign up at the post office.

who cares its pointless. only reason anyone does is because its easier than dealing with the penalties

I thought that seemed kinda light, so went google and also found this:
quote:
If required to register with Selective Service, failure to register is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment. Also, a person who knowingly counsels, aids, or abets another to fail to comply with the registration requirement is subject to the same penalties.
Unless a man provides proof that he is exempt from the registration requirement, his failure to register will result in referral to the Department of Justice for possible investigation and prosecution.

I did but never understood why. If they have to draft I would think they would draft from all eligible males, wether you registered or not.

I never registered. I joined the army and shipped out a month after my 18th birthday.
I served for 3 years and came back to BR just after my 21st birthday. The notices to register for selective service kept coming. I never signed up, I figured if they wanted me they could just reactivate me.

Yeah. It pretty much sounds like entrapment. They have all your information, so it's not like it would be hard to find you.

It's a scam. They already know who and where you are.

My Dad woke me up early the morning of my birthday and drove me to the post office to register.
