Have to say they didn't totally screw it up even though I didn't think they needed to be renamed to start with....
Fort Rucker will become Fort Novosel...
Fort Lee will be named for Arthur Gregg, Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics for the US Army and Charity Adams, the first African-American woman to be an officer in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.
Fort Pickett will be named named after Van Barfoot, who received the Medal of Honor for his service in WWII and is of Native American descent. Fort A.P. Hill will be renamed for Dr. Mary Walker, a Medal of Honor recipient for her service during the Civil War. Fort Benning will be renamed after Lt. Gen. Hal Moore, a decorated soldier whose time in Vietnam is recounted in the movie, “We Were Soldiers.”
Fort Polk will be renamed after William Henry Johnson, a Black soldier who received the Medal of Honor for heroism as member of first African-American Army unit to engage in combat in WWI.

So much virtue signaling. How about they do something to actually help the veterans?

Needlessly expensive virtue signaling.

Navy was smart to name bases after the city they reside in

Ft. Johnson will be very fitting.

This is what socialists and communists do. They should be removed from government and removed from the country.

I mean, clearly ripping down the statues & changing names have helped America tremendously. We're in such better shape now because of it.
How come none of the state representatives haven't give any resistance to this clown bullshite?

They can change the name if they want, but I will always know these bases by the real names, and they can't do anything about the public still referring to the bases as the real names. Look at Lee Circle in New Orleans for example. Everyone still calls is Lee Circle, whether the statue is there or not.

Can’t wait for the articles scolding troops for saying a post named after a minority is a hellhole and a dump.
Posted on 5/24/22 at 2:52 pm to The Maj
I'm going to stick with the original names

My FIL was friends with Gen Moore. He had one of those weird careers where he spent 20 years at Ft Benning, then retired and went to work in the exact same building as a contractor for another 10 years. Everyone will always call it Benning, but Fort Moore or whatever is not a downgrade like some of the other posts are facing.

I think I want the USA to fall apart.
