The Subaru Baja was an all-wheel-drive, four passenger, four-door utility manufactured from 2002 to 2006 by Subaru and marketed for model years 2003 to 2006. The Baja combines the handling and passenger carrying characteristics of a traditional passenger car with the open-bed versatility, and to a lesser degree, load capacity of a pickup truck.

2004: introduced a new 2.5-liter turbocharged model producing 160 kW (210 hp).

I’m thinking about trying to find one of the manual turbo models and trading my ‘06 CRV for it. I could use a pickup bed for around the house stuff, with no real need to tow anything at the moment. A manual transmission with a little pep would be fun to have.

Anyone own one of these and want to share? Good idea or bad?

People love their Subarus. Not me or anyone I know or care about, but people.

Does it come with sensible shoes, or do you have to provide your own?

If you are a utilitarian type it automobiles serve a purpose. I like my vehicles to look decent. I care more about functionality but damn this is ugly AF. Which means it will get a million miles and you will not ever be able to get rid of it. So if you are looking for dependability. I think Subaru fits the bill.

It's not a particularly attractive vehicle, but Subarus in general are pretty sweet so I'd imagine it would at worst be a reliable vehicle. Most Subies have doo doo towing capacity so look up what that one is rated for if you have anything in mind you may eventually want to tow.

Just get the new Ford Maverick or Hyundai Santa Cruz. They come with a warranty and are basically the same thing.

I've owned some sort of subaru for over 20 years now. Check out head gasket issues in the 2.5L engine in the years when those were produced....

quote:

Subaru Head Gasket Problem Years – Second Round
The second group of head gasket issues came with the EJ251, EJ252 and EJ253 2.5 liter engines. These head gaskets suffered from external leaks between the cylinder heads and the engine block causing coolant and/or oil to leak out between the head and the block. This head gasket failure does not typically cause the engine to overheat. However, because of the way the engine and coolant system are situated there could be issues with coolant mixing with the oil. When coolant gets mixed with your oil, it dilutes the oil and hinders the lubrication, making it easier to tear up some other parts like a rod bearing or possibly cause your engine to seize your engine. While these are severe instances, it is possible, so getting that head gasket leak addressed should not be put off. Models affected were those with these specific engines and include model:

Impreza 1998 – 2003
Forester 1999 – 2004
Legacy 1999 – 2004
Outback 2000 – 2004
Baja 2003 – 2005

Subaru’s are very good vehicles.
The engines are bullet proof, they’re very safe and some of the most comfortable seats I ever sat in.

That said, I’m not a big fan of the Baja. It’s too small to sacrifice the entire back half with an almost unusable truck bec

When you look at one, ask about the head gasket. Subaru used shitty head gaskets for several years and many an owner dealt with blown head gaskets.

Don't know about the Santa Cruz, but it is hard to get a Maverick right now.
