Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams was fined $15,000 by the NBA league office for his comments criticizing officials after his team's Game 4 loss on Sunday.

Williams was upset about a 42-15 free throw disparity in favor of the New Orleans Pelicans, who won 118-103 to even the series at 2-2.

"You can slice it any way you want to. In a playoff game that physical, [the disparity] is amazing," Williams said. "Coaches shouldn't have to come up to the microphone and feel like they're going to get their heads cut off for speaking the truth."

He went on to say: "It's not like we don't attack the basket. They outplayed us, they deserve to win. That's a free throw disparity that you have to look at. ... It's hard [to] swallow."

Game 5 is Tuesday night in Phoenix.

I actually thought he phrased it well enough where they wouldn't fine him. Oh well

Honest question. Will this make refs more likely or less likely to favor them tonight?

Hopefully this means the pressure the Refs would have felt going into this game to give Phoenix favorable calls just died.

$15,000 is peanuts. He will get the response from the refs that he wants and it will be worth that small fine.

Yep. I said that in the original thread. He knew what was going to happen. He’ll get the fine. But they’ll get way more calls now in Game 5

I've gone back and listened to alot of national media guys and they are all pretty much saying they seen nothing that was egregious on the refs part in that game and they called it fairly, and Phoenix shot themselves in the foot because they have no slashers and they are always just taking pull up shots.

I still think it is so dumb for leagues to fine coaches for saying things about refs. I really hope the Last 2 Minute report becomes a full 48 minute report in the future.

They are more likely to favor him slightly, in that accusations of bias against the Suns will be in the back of their mind.

Add home court into it and that is a slight tilt in their favor unless Herb and Grand Theft Alvarado metaphorically punch them in the mouth.

I think the calls will lean heavily in their favor tonight but it’ll have more to do with the home crowd being extremely vocal at the officials from the tip off. It’s just human nature. Our guys just can’t do what phoenix did and let it frustrate them

More likely.

History shows calling the refs out actually helps your team. Expect to get fricked by the refs tonight.

Suns will undoubtedly be more aggressive at the rim tonight, hoping to get more calls..

but i'm still way more afraid that they suddenly wake up from behind the three point line

My concern is that JV and Herb get in foul trouble early. Those are our 2 most physical players and if they call it close, they will take away our physical advantage that we used to win game 4.

how are they going to call a foul on an uncontested floater in the paint, or an uncontested ally oop? That's how the vast majority of their paint points are being made.

They are purposely pulling up to take a floater and avoid contact at the rim, where JV and BI and Herb are attacking the rim and creating contact. Now maybe they don't call as much for us, but it's kind of hard not to when there's obvious contact happening at the rim.

We’ve also been good at letting Phoenix have the dunk/layup the few times they got behind the defense. We didn’t commit And 1 fouls.

People say this stuff all the time. It’s one of those things that comes true and you blame it or it doesn’t and it’s never revisited.

Didn’t both Embiid and Doc bitch about the refs after game 4? Embiid got fined. Total fouls in 4 were essentially even and Sixers lost by 15.

Not only that, but they were out scoring us in the paint as well. We had matador defense for a lot of the game, and gave up easy layups on drives to the rim.

Just look at Javale being perfect from the field. We barely contested anything.

For every foul that you can show me that they didn't call on us, I can show you two that they did not call on the Suns.

Agreed. Which is why I think it’s super important for CJ and Trey to make some triples tonight
