dude, it was obvious bruce was neglecting his duties of running a business by running out in the middle of the night dressed in a bat suit. a business that essentially helped run the city of Gotham. and a potential politician acknowledging that fact isn't as "scary" as you think it is.
if the local gov't relies on a certain business and that business begins to struggle... oh, maybe because the owner isn't taking it seriously enough because he's dresses in a bat suit at night... they're gonna start noticing something is off.

y'all just make opinions without taking a second thought about what you guys just watched. you just hear the term "white privilege" and freak the frick out and ruin the rest of the fricking movie for yourselves and come here and spew the same fricking bullshite for days on end because you think WB/DC/Matt Reeves ruined this fricking movie for you. but they didn't.
it's a damn good batman flick and if you don't enjoy it, fine. but don't blame it on "throw-away" line said by a poor/black character or some politician asking for more help, probably due to the lack of it, around the city.
you know, i'm really surprised by alot of you. there's alot that could probably be upsetting to some of you. like the fact that gordon is black, but i haven't heard one complaint about it. a black character that's been 100% white ever since his introduction.

I've tried watching this steaming turd at least 3 times now and I've distracted by:
1. some steaks I was grilling
2. a thunderstorm
3. and some squirrels that were fricking in a tree outside my window
This movie sucks so much
EMO batman is the worst Batman ever. I don't even know what the point of this shitshow was. And stop talking like you have fricking marbles in your mouth

I could go buy the "Batcycle" for about $7k today. The only cool thing Emo Batman did in the entire movie almost broke his neck. This is Gen Z Batman and just like them - he sucks. Superman should have have just come in and killed him - that would have been entertaining. frick this Batman and frick Gen Z for fricking up one the coolest comic book characters of all time.

I am not self-hating by a long shot. However, I do recognize my physical traits along with who I knew and who knew me have provided certain benefits that I would not have been afforded otherwise. It is like a LA river pilot boat captain that thinks they are where they are without being a son and nephew of a pilot boat captain.
One doesn't have to hate themselves for recognizing advantages things beyond their control afforded them. It just requires some humility to accept that the advantages exist.
Fatkid mentioned the low number of people that could identify with a black female lesbian mayor with a white wife, I do agree it is a small number of people that see life through that exact lens but it is likely significantly larger than those that can identify as being a billionaire who fights crime at night in a bat suit.

So every white person had advantages just because you did? You may need some help. Is Floyd Mayweather and Ben Carlson privileged, or did they work hard and are good at what they do? Privilege surely would have stopped them right?
It's not rocket science..... somewhat try in highschool, and then decide to make money and work hard at a trade. Or go to college and get a real degree and find a job. That is true for everyone. You do realize that there a ton of dirt poor white people right? How is that possible?

Here's some nuance.
Why does "privilege" only seem to apply to black people?
When a woman is nominated to the USSC specifically because she is a black woman and the President even specifically says that's why he nominated her, is that privilege?
When a majority of professional athletes in most sports are one skin pigment, is that also privilege?
When popular characters are remade specifically so they can be cast by black actors (rather than indian, asian, arab, jewish, etc.) repeatedly, is that privilege?
More nuance...why is the daughter of the town's richest and most powerful mobster, who seems to lack for nothing herself, bitching about "white privilege" when she has more than most of the white people in Gotham?

Yeah it's really just the sorta movie you have on in the background. If you devote your full attention to it like I did, you'll just end up annoyed.
I think people would have responded better to it had it just gone straight to some streaming service where it belonged.

Took me three tries to finish the movie. Kept falling asleep.
Wasn’t great. I thought I’d really like Pattinson, but wasn’t really into his Bruce Wayne. Thought he was fine as Batman.

This makes no sense in the context of what she said. She didn't say "Wayne Enterprises is going through some struggles." She said his father was very philanthropic and she wanted Bruce to be doing more. Yes, and politician claiming you aren't doing enough with your own money is extremely scary. From that point forward, you know you have a target on your back from someone who has the full power of the government behind them. Think Elizabeth Warren and Elon Musk. Or Trump and the prosecutor from New York. It's the false idea that because someone is rich they have to be "doing more" and we have to make sure they are.
It's pretty clear that you didn't think this through, so now you're flailing about to try to save your comment. Sorry, not going to work. Your original statement was nonsensical, and trying to defend it is even more so.

I really liked him in the role. I was happy to have a Batman who didn't switch to "gruff ridiculous voice mode" when in costume. It's unfortunate the rest of the movie wasn't up to snuff.

This is so stupid. A 3 hour movie that features a pretty decent Batman is being crapped on because of one line about white privilege uttered by a character that 100% would say that exact thing in the real world. It's not woke if it's something in character. How you feel about "white privilege" as a concept is completely irrelevant.

These same folks had an epic melt fest about Jim Gordon being a black guy before the movie even released so it’s not surprising to me at all.
