Be kinda cool getting into and industry with that type of starting pay. I work offshore and dont even make that. Stipulations though only from local areas.
Maybe one of you it maybe helpful.

Walmart said Thursday it is raising pay for long-haul truck drivers and launching a new program to train the next generation, as it seeks the staffing it relies on to replenish store shelves and warehouses across the country.
The retailer said truck drivers will now make between $95,000 and $110,000 in their first year with Walmart.

I am a lawyer and I’d rather drive a truck.

What do you do offshore? I worked offshore from 1999 to 2002.

Congrats on a career offshore making less than 100k.

Do us all a favor and train some of them to run a damn register on their off days.

If they let me blow fat blunts on the road, I'd do it for 60.

You can throw the chain baw?

Do they provide the truck? If they don't you aren't going to be taking in anything near $100k

Two things:
It seems they only plan to hire from Walmart employees.
Before you get into trucking you need to talk to some truckers and see what they think about how the promises of pay turn into actual numbers.

Saving money on cashiers to pay more for drivers.

My dad was a truck driver. I often think what I am missing out on seeing daily sitting at a desk.

quote:Notice the key words in all of this - "UP TO" when they talk about their pay. Usually "UP TO" is corporate way of saying "If you never go home, never have a breakdown, and do nothing but work 7 days a week, 365 days per year." Also at Walmart you'll have people working in "safety" that have never driven a truck telling you that you're doing it wrong, they monitor your e-logs for "efficiency", cameras pointed inside the cab watching your every move, gravity sensors monitoring how hard you brake and turn, uniforms that have to worn 24/7, forced dispatch so you'll never get to chose where you want to go/when you want to drive/where you want to park, deliveries in shoddy areas (especially neighborhood markets), etc.
Before you get into trucking you need to talk to some truckers and see what they think about how the promises of pay turn into actual numbers.
Basically if you want to be a truck driver but enjoy none of the perks of being a truck driver - knock yourself out. I'd rather enjoy my job rather than being viewed as a liability by the people I work for.

Yeah that seems insanely low. My old man was a seismic engineer for Schlumberger and made some solid stacks.

I’ve been in the trucking industry for 20 years and it has been widely known that driving for Walmart is the top job available for a company driver. They pay well and treat their drivers with respect.
They are all uniformed company drivers and are respected amongst their truck driving peers.

Don’t know it is still the case but they used to only hire drivers with at least 5 years of OTR experience
