I got a new Xbox S and Xbox X.
I cannot get my 12yo daughter to play….quite disappointing.

We didn’t allow it until 7th/8th grade. We conditioned it on achieving certain grades, participation in sports, and performing their chores. Once we purchased it, we only allowed certain games (sports) and not “shooting/killing” type games until they were older. Also kept the other requirements in place and put a time limit on the play time. Worked well balancing it this way.

There is nothing inherently wrong with video games. Why disallow your kid something that could bring them joy instead of being an actual adult that instills balance and discipline? It seems insecure.
What do you think is worse? Tigerdroppings or Video Games? I already know your answer.

There are many different types of video games. Many can be educational or at least provide some intellectual benefit. Many include puzzles and problem solving skills.
Kids absolutely play way too much video games. Human interaction and physical activity is always the preferable form of entertainment for children.
But abolishment isn’t the answer.

My son is in 9th grade he has a Xbox in his room, once his homework is done he can play for an hour or so before bed. I don’t have a problem with it as long as it isn’t hours on end he understands the rules and the limits no problem.

Kids playing Roblox versus watching YouTube is a win in my book during winter months up here. We are still high 30s to low 40s for the mornings right now. Sick of it

I talk to a bunch of parents at school, sporting events, etc that tell me “I just can’t get them to put down the controller long enough to do…” it’s usually a frustration about grades or sports.
That's on the parents, not the video games.
I allow my kids to play video games because it's one of the things they enjoy. (And they don't spend all their time on video games, it's one of many things they enjoy) But they know that if the chores aren't done or their grades aren't up to snuff, the PlayStation is getting unplugged and locked up in my gun safe.
The parents CAN get them to put down the controllers...they just choose not to be a parent. Instead they let the children dictate the house rules. And those are shitty parents.

Your kids should kill you while you sleep
Posted on 4/7/22 at 12:18 pm to PT24-7
That’s some BS.
The kids will hate you when they are older because you couldn’t be reasonable.
It’s like the same thing as the parents that named their kids these trendy dumb arse names

When I grew up it was simple from my parents. You can’t do anything until you finish your homework.
Don’t be afraid of your children.

I don't have and kids, but I could see seizing the system Monday-Friday during the school year and allowing them free roam on the weekends assuming they're involved in extracurriculars, have lives, friends, and good grades.
There's not going to be any of that locking themselves in a room, playing HALO, and jacking off to porn and eating Doritos and drinking Mountain Dew.
Reject modernism.

If they're making good grades and have a social life then so what?

Our kids are not allowed to use any devices after they get home from school until all homework is completed, studying done, and chores are done.
Once that is done, they can use them up to 2 hours per night, and also must be turned off by 9 pm and brought downstairs.
Most days, they have various after school activates and they don't get close to 2 hours.
Complete bans on things is what turns kids into rebels.
Edited to add, they also lose their devices if ANY grade average drops below a B and/or we feel they are not giving their best efforts. I'm ok with a B if they are trying hard, I'm not ok with a B if they are being lazy.
Of course they have also lost their devices for talking back, not doing chores, bad behavior, etc.

Why raise the kids myself when a screen can do it for me? I have more free time than all the other parents I know
Posted on 4/7/22 at 3:20 pm to PT24-7
This is stupid. You can parent your children and also allow video games.
Posted on 4/7/22 at 9:46 pm to PT24-7
Or why not learn to parent and make them understand if x isn’t happening then neither is gaming. My daughter once told me once I got her an Xbox and laid the rules down that it was more pressure on her to do right. It’s called liability and it’s a great thing to teach kids.
