Visit Baton Rouge or VBR. From their website:
MISSION
The mission of Visit Baton Rouge shall be to increase visitation to and awareness of the Baton Rouge Area thereby enhancing economic impact.
From the BRBR:
So what is their biggest concern now? Not how to increase tourism, not hustling conventions or other events to help the hotel and restaurant business, but more social programs.
And they go on to say:
EBR has numerous issues. Public safety, traffic, drainage, and the list goes on and on. We have had enough surveys. If the agencies would just stick to their jobs and not waste money trying to do someone else’s we’d be better off.

Visit Baton Rouge received the results of the survey it conducted in January evaluating Baton Rouge as a tourist destination.

The big concerns VBR needs to address are accessibility, safety and health, and workforce development, VBR President Paul Arrigo says.

How the hell do you expect to run a successful jobs program without duplication of responsibilities and roles on the public dime?

Meh VBR does A LOT for Baton Rouge. This isn’t like the COA.

When St George is formed, can we rip any of the monies we provide them from their grubby, worthless hands?

I’d love to see the BREC get audited. That’s where the real thievery happens.

I'm going to say not really considering where their funding comes from.
quote:
Visit Baton Rouge is the “marketing arm” for the city of Baton Rouge and the CVB does not charge for its services. This organization is funded by a portion of the hotel occupancy tax collected from visitors' hotel room bookings.

They get audited annually. And it's clear that the $20+ million in Administration and Planning that is the wtf amount.

Visit BR is not a government agency.

I didn’t say it was. But they are publicly funded. They should be subject to public scrutiny,

First thing I do when deciding where to vacation is look up what the locals are paying for daycare.

The only people vacationing in Baton Rouge are the people you don't want visiting your town.
Football fans are coming regardless of VBR

I'd imagine those issues are pretty important to tourism workers, and thus, their employers.

What exactly do they do?
And even supposing that they perform useful functions...does that entitle them to waste tax dollars on useless studies that come to conclusions everyone who lives here already knows?

No disagreement here. The same can be said for NGOs and "non-profits" that have become quite lucrative for politically connected folks.

Yes, and if only we had people working on these issues VBR wouldn’t have to!!!

DPW is worse - they are a necessary branch of government- but they should be watched more closely
Too much overtime, too much ‘equipment’ spending, not enough accountability

I don’t know for sure, but I gave a feeling DPW is top heavy. Plenty of chiefs and few Braves.
