Yet another reason why this vet doesn't do the VA....

More BS from the VA....
They just treat you like a number. That's it. I've had numerous friends and family members over the years(including my own stepmom & dad & my wife) try to get me to use the VA and I have always steadfastly refused. This is another reason why. Just ridiculous.
Hell they helped to kill my dad. So there's also that.

So you're not a big proponent of government-run healthcare?

I'm not military, nor Is my immediate family, but took my grandpaw (in his 90s/WW2 vet) at the time to the VA a few times when I was up visiting and helping out. Sitting in the waiting room made me legitimately sad. Not because I have any idea about whether or not they are getting decent treatment, but just the fact I was there with a bunch of guys no younger than 75 all waiting for over an hour and a half for their appointment (which they were early and the VA was late) and half the guys could barely drive or walk and many had no-one there to bring them.
TLDR: Not trying to put myself in your scenario but it makes my skin boil. Vets should get first class treatment no matter what.

And theres that universal health care progressives want so bad.
Poor guy should have been PEC'd into an inpatient facility immediately. But that's frequently the type of mental health professionals the VA employs. Just in it for the benefits and paid vacation, have never served a day in their lives and treat you like an inconvenience.
The only good mental health practitioners I know of who work at the VA... are also veterans. And thats a tiny % of an already small %.

Yeah they botched my dad's clavicle surgery amongst other things.

And to be fair but the VA has been this way since the Nixon administration. It's nothing new.

They need to scrap the VA and just make it insurance to use at any medical facility.

I must be in the minority but when I use the VA it is only for psychiatry and it’s the best one I’ve ever had.
All teleheath out of Charleston. Meds in mail or UPS. I actually prefer it.

The VA is Exhibit A for how Affirmative Action hiring practices are extremely destructive.

Oh I don't doubt it. Like I said, I'm not military nor come from a military family but I have always heard some questionable things and idk it just made me realize how poorly run certain offices can be, so I just spent the time opening the door for super old guys in wheel chairs/with walkers (as there wasn't even an electronic door and half couldn't easily open it), and just talking to them. They all just seemed to be super happy to talk someone, even if it was some random guy, and weren't complaining about the dysfunctional day at the VA. Definitely from a different generation.

Well the nurses knew the guy was full of shite... Probably an attention whore which is why his story is on the internet.

Trim down on the ridiculous beaurocracy to start. Hire better practitioners and pay them competitively while also offering some of the best benefits in the business.
And finally - this is important - actually FIRE bad staff.

I was almost killed by the VA in Houston. Came pretty damn close after having major surgery there. If it were a private hospital I would be very rich. Cant do anything except make a claim for damages which was denied of course. I just go for med refills type of stuff now and it helps me meet my BCBS deductible easily.

I’ve always had great treatment at the NOLA VA. Dunno where you are, but I can speak from personal Experience that the NOLA VA is good.

The VA is everything wrong with medicine and government.

Good until you have a serious problem. I work for Ochsner. It's not comparable. My VA doctor is always some 70 year old that takes the job for 2 years then retires.

You've never had someone you served with commit suicide out of the blue a week before XMas(and leave a GF and 2 young kids behind) when they seemed okay otherwise, have you?
Attitudes like yours are why the mental health crisis in this country(especially among vets) is as bad as it is.
