I'm not sure this is the right section of TD to post this, but here goes. I work from home and sit at a computer all day every day for my work. I need to have hobbies that I can look forward to doing on the weekends (or sometimes at the end of the day). Also need stress relief from all the crap happening in the world. I want some aspect of physical labor since I don't go to the gym.
I learned the basics of stick welding last year and it's something I enjoy. I wouldn't mind getting more into woodworking but my half of the garage is already cluttered and don't have room for table saw or band saw.
What are your hobbies for folks that are in similar situation?

Gardening provides a good bit of physical labor and stress relief for me. I have several hobbies to occupy my time and interests, but gardening provides the most physical activity. You can always find something to do daily in the lawn/landscape, most months of the year in the Deep South.

- building and painting models for my grown kids and mailing them to them.
- building a multicade aracade machine using a raspberry pi and following instructions from online forums
- swapping my 4runner head unit with a chinese android unit and putting in new speakers
- restoring a 1987 bmw
- building steps and taking on other projects around the house that are over my head
- attempting to find time to ride my bike and tinkering with the components
- improving my pool game
- building a walking trail up the hill behind my house (soon to be someone else's house)
- treehouse for my 7yo (this summer)
- collecting bourbon (until i went broke)

I enjoy bike riding (cycling). Not a ride around your neighborhood, but a long 1 or 2- hour long ride. It's quiet time for you, demanding, contributes to a healthier lifestyle and lets you reset from sitting in front of your computer. It definitely helps me out.

I have a fairly large backyard vegetable garden and a good bit of the front yard devoted to flowering plants and ground cover====so that keeps me pretty busy. The vegetable garden is five 50 ft. long rows plus a couple large trellises and a 48 sq. ft. raised bed for root crops.
I also have a well-equipped woodworking shop, love to play darts, having been a league player for many years but only play pick-up games now. Before I required bifocals I loved to play pool and had a very decent game, but looking over a table with bifocals is wonky at best.
I also have a 100 lb. heavy bag and a speed bag that I get some cardio going from time to time.
My man cave where I have my dart boards hung, I also have quite a bit of weightlifting equipment to get in some strength and toning work.
Being retired gives me lots of free time to do as I pretty much please.
Oh, and I also do all the yard work, mechanic work and home repair work. So, all said, I stay pretty busy around the house.

I bought a farm.
Pretty much every weekend I'm at the property doing something.
It's 100 acres with a 9 acre lake. Spent last fall getting it ready for deer hunting. Now working on getting one of the fields ready to plant for a dove field.
I bought a tractor and a bunch of implements for it then built a shed for the tractor an implements (now need to expand it).

I took up guitar a few years ago when work got very stressful. I also do some small woodworking projects. You don't need a huge setup to make simple things like cornhole boards.

name it.... i love hobbies.
As for woodworking, you dont need big tools. Does that help, sure. but you can start off with hand tools. i bought a few hand planes on ebay and restored them a while back. that was fun within itself.

That would be a dream come true for me! I just did a quick search for large tracts of land in my area. The cheapest I found is $750,000 for 80 acres. Most of them are around $4-5 million dollars.
Heck I'd be delighted with like 7 or 8 acres.

Yep, I do. Good idea. I might do something like that. I made a charcoal bbq pit out of an old propane tank and had a lot of fun with it. Based on the number of compliments I've gotten on it, I might start making some of those to sell.
Totally agree on restoring stuff! I've done a few restorations of old tools and that has been very rewarding and fun.

I made plastic models as a kid and really enjoyed it. Do you make your models out of plastic or wood?

I can see how that would be nice! I have a state park very close to me, it would be great if they have trails for bikes.

Gardening and fishing are my main hobbies. I used to have more, but then I got married and had kids.
ETA: I guess I should also throw in beekeeping. I took that up last year and enjoy it. Although I probably shouldn’t, I normally lump that into the gardening category. That would pair really well with woodworking. Making your own boxes, frames, and swarm traps could definitely keep you occupied if you’d like to keep a lot of colonies.

Definitely woodworking....get on youtube and start small...clean out your garage and you'll have plenty of room.
I am obsessed with making boxes right now. It is the perfect stress relief at the end of a long work day or week.

Get a road bike
Nope, not for me. Too expensive and far too many idiot drivers on the roads. Although I'm sure that it's a lot of fun.

If you have a big yard, get some chickens.
The startup cost/effort is low.
They're surprisingly entertaining.
Not a whole lot of exercise, mind you.

Back when I was racing seriously I carted 3 bikes around the state on the back of my vehicle every weekend and 3 different sets of wheels.
- road race bike
- time trial bike
- crit bike (beater)
Time consuming hobby..it will take over your life if you're trying to get on the podium and work yourself up through the different categories.
I got remarried and lost all that free time plus my wife hated my weirdo eating habits.
The trade off was well worth it.
