The comments on Twitter blaming the cops for leaving to respond to the priority call are astounding. There’s some sick fricks in this world.

IMO, intent shouldn't matter if you kill someone under the influence. It's murder. You want to be an adult? Being an adult means accepting responsibility for your actions, even under the influence.

Ok, just read that and my God.
Leaves scene to help pedestrian and gets hit by that DUI stop.

they're both dead. It was the same 2 troopers. They didn't know she was DUI. They stopped her for speeding but got called away.

Those people have never worked patrol duties. If I pulled someone over for speeding, and got a call for a domestic before I made contact with the driver, the domestic call takes priority.

I heard that speed reported by a reporter interviewed on Philly talk radio today. That's what he said, and he had a lot of detailed info. Said that portion of I95 is flat, straight and recently resurfaced and a lot of people have been caught at very high speeds recently.

Serious question, would it take priority over an obvious reckless driver?

If you have a reckless driver pulled over and haven't made contact with the driver, receive a call of a pedestrian on the interstate, in the fast lane no less, the pedestrian is the priority. Ideally, one of the troopers would have stayed with the already stopped driver. Don't know that agencies' policies though.

Seems like they pulled her over for speeding not for dui. That usually comes after being pulled over for something else. Light out, speeding, not using signal, running a light or stop sign.

reckless would be if she was swerving in and out of lanes, cutting people off, but if she was maintaining her lane, just at a very high speed, that isn't automatically considered reckless driving is it? (asking because I really don't know)

Some jurisdictions consider 15-20mph above the speed limit as being reckless. Again, don't know that areas policies.

I think they were in the same car. At least, that’s what I took from the article.

Very possible. I was solo on patrol so that option wasn't available to me. When I had a "hot" call, I had no choice.

A coworker of a friend of mine was crossing the Causeway and passed a car whose driver appeared to be drunk. The coworker overtook the guy and drive a while longer before stopping to use one of the phone boxes on the bridge to call the police. He didn’t stop at a crossover - he stopped on the bridge in one lane of traffic. Predictably, the drunk driver came along and smashed into the guy’s car and killed him. Obviously this was before cell phones.

Yes---here's the whole story as I heard from a local reporter on a Philly radio show this morning. The 2 troopers pulled the woman over for speeding.(110 in a 50!!) They ran her registration but just then got a "priority call" for the pedestrian walking in the left lane of the interstate. At that time they did not suspect her of DUI. They had to let her go to handle the priority call. They had to make a u-turn to go the other direction to go to that call. For some reason, the DUI chick ALSO made the u turn and minutes later hit the 2 troopers and the man they were putting into their cruiser. She hit them so hard they all flew across the other 3 lanes of traffic and landed on the opposite shoulder.
That is pretty wild. What are the odds of this happening? They need to put that bitch in a men's prison.

The drunk illegal that killed my sister had three previous DUI’s. He was granted bail and skipped it, of course, never to be seen again. I’m sure he’s back under a different name.
