TV went out, what’s the best brand these days?

Our 65” TV in our living room went out. I’d like to buy a new middle of the pack replacement. What’s the most reliable brand? I see Best Buy has a sale going on a 65” Samsung 8k series. Is this a decent TV?

Note that the TV is in a room with a lot of outside light coming in.

I bought a 77" Sony OLED TV, and I'll be honest. It's good and all, but I don't think I'd pay $3k for it again. I just don't think it's that much better quality wise than say a VIZIO 75" P-Series at half the price.
If I were to do it again, that's what I'd get and not have a moment of regret.

Forgot to mention that the TV that’s going out is a Vizio. It’s the second Vizio that I’ve opened that has lighting issues. I won’t be buying a Vizio again.

I have a high end Samsung and Sony and both are solid TVs.

Well, IMO it comes down to Samsung or Sony. Which price range are you looking at. IMO, stay away from OLED if you're trying to save money. Yes, the color palette is nice, but the tradeoff in brightness is noticeable.

65” X95J for $1599 at Best Buy. Top of the line non-OLED TV. Just about everything in it is same as the Sony OLED except for the OLED panel. Same processor, etc.

I have a $500 TLC Roku 65" 4k and don't understand why I'd ever need anything bigger or better.

I’ll check back with you in a year or so when the color goes wonky on that TLC. Great TV for 2 years, sometimes 3.

The 65" Sony X90J/ 90CJ can be had for $1,099 right now at Costco, Best Buy etc
For $1,790 you can get LG C1 OLED or Sony OLED

I have at least 2 Roku TLC's that are 5 years old. I also have 2 Hisense TVs that are 3 years old and 1 year old, respectively. None of my cheap Roku TVs have gone out on me, yet. The one year old Hisense is an Android TV, which I like better than Roku, FWIW.
I think the TCL and Hisense TVs are great values, whether they have Roku, Fire TV, or Android TV.

Things will be interesting this year with Samsung introducing their QD OLED tvs. All the initial reviews are saying it's significantly better than last year's LG OLED panels. QD OLED is significantly different than how LG does their OLED panels.
It's good enough that this year's 2022 Sony flagship (A95K) is using a QD OLED panel too. A little surprising they would use it already being so new.

They are, but as I understand it TCL is more of a real manufacturer, and Hisense is more of an Insignia/Sharp "house brand" line.
I have some cheap TVs, one of each, and the TCL picture is better. The Hisense has bad light bleed.
Point is if you're going budget, TCL would be my first choice.
I don't think you can go wrong with LG, Samsung, or Sony...LG and Samsung sell them at all price points, Sony tends to sell only mid-to-premium lines.

TCL is a good budget TV but keep in mind that it is not only a Chinese-made TV but that TCL is actually owned by the Chinese government.

I went through this same exercise in late January. I went with Sony 65" x90.
I liked some others that were less $$$ but ended up going Sony due to reliability (I replaced a previous Sony that was 10yrs+).

I was a Sony man for years, but they’ve gone down in recent years IMHO. My last straw Sony was a pretty new 900 series 65” that blew a line of pixels for no reason (out of warranty of course). $1500 down the drain…. Never again. My Samsung and LG tvs are solid. Even the cheap Vizio and HCL are holding their own compared to that overpriced Sony pos that I “had to have.”
