If Watson does end up in Atlanta and we are able to sign Jameis, what’s your thoughts on his overall future here? Is it another 1-year deal, 3 years, or are they looking for him to be the franchise QB? I like Jameis and think he’s a great teammate (you can see how much the guys enjoy being around him) but idk if he’s that dude that can bring us to the mountain top again. Playoffs? Yes. SB?

We are not winning a SB with Winston. Signing him to a multiple-year deal would be a bad waste of time.

We don't have enough of Winston to know anything really. Not since he's been with us anyways. He had a strong showing before he got injured last year. I also realize that we can't just wait and see too long with him at this time.

The NFC has very little QB talent. Two old greats, one great in his prime and that's it.

You have
Brady and Rodgers who could be gone in two years

Stafford who is great

Then Dak, Cousins, and Murray who all look good but all have negatives.

Lance, Fields, and Hurts are young and who knows.

In two years it could be.

1/2 - Stafford and Watson

3 - 8 being either Winston, Dak, Murray, Fields, Lance, and Cousins

That's it.

Obviously Watson would be with Stafford in greatness but what has Watson done on the field that Winston has not?

Sign Winston to a four year deal. Then go get additional assets and then with another homerun draft the Saints could be a top contender this year.

Corrected it for you, Watson will be in jail for something sexual related. He's just trying to fund his legal defense team. And before you reply something crablegs, he has done his legal defense and taken less money and time to learn the team

Is Winston a franchise savior? No.

Is he capable of helming a great team with championship contending pieces? Yes.

Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler all won Super Bowls. Even Jared Goff, Jimmy Garoppolo, Senneca Wallace, Rex Grossman, Joe Webb, Craig Morton, Don Strock, etc. could lead a team to a SB appearance.

Signing Winston, then making an actual effort to improve the offense around him would absolutely allow him to lead the Saints to the Super Bowl. 5-2 with a hodgepodge offense and very conservative play calling before he got hurt. He is worth a couple full seasons with a healthy Saints team to see what he can actually accomplish. Not saying he's a transcendent talent, but he earned his chance to prove himself.

I think you do a 3 year deal. That gets you a guy that can help carry this team until you find his replacement. Next year's draft is supposed to be better for QBs, so in theory you could have Winston as the true #1 in '22, draft rookie in '23 and have him learn under Winston, '24 rookie takes over and you either have Winston as back-up, or just straight cut him.

If Winston turns out to be great and shows the ability to be the next guy, you lock him up for another 5 years before going into his final year.

If Winston turns out to be trash, you should have a decent pick to help move up the draft, and it won't cost much to just move on.

The hardest thing about this Watson scenario is that going into this offseason I was pretty excited about getting Winston back and seeing where the team goes. Now I just can't get excited about any of our QB options knowing how close we got to Watson.

Winston was just ok when healthy. Do peeps realize he is coming off major surgery. Also surgery wasn’t on his brain, even SP didn’t like how careless he was with the ball. I can think of two time he just threw ball up for grabs in red zone last year. Time to move on because of the injury.

Let's do a 2-year guarantee with a third year to be voided by either side. This way we can truly see what he does to lead a team being healthy. I like Winston and want him to succeed. Just leave Watson alone and show Winston some love.

In 2 years this defense will be watered down. It’s time to win now. Winston is to immature .

While probably true, other than Watson there really isn't anyone out there for this year. You need the additional years because I am sure Winston is done w 1 year deals, but as long as you don't break the bank you should be able to stomach Winston as an expensive back-up if a better QB becomes available in FA next year or you are able to grab one in the '23 draft.

Winston is good enough with the players we have, to win enough games to put the best QBs in the draft out of reach, absent a franchise-risking trade

So true. We will be good enough to sneak in playoffs but not win. So low draft picks

We don't really know that but I do agree we don't need to sign a multiyear deal with him until he proves he can make good decisions for a full season and has actually recovered from his injury.

You can argue it was SSS, but he was very good for us last year. His passer rating and QBR if he sustained them would both have finished top 6 last year.
