I am late to the party on this one. I watched it yesterday and really thought it was great.
I was slightly irked that his face was never revealed. I am sure that was intentional and probably meant to convey that he was "every man."
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations for similar movies about similar subject matters?

Yeah showing his face directly would kind of undercut the movies entire message and purpose.
V for Vendetta is awesome shite. Watch every year in November usually.

Children of Men seems to have some parallels.

I remember seeing it recently and everything was blamed on the “Conservative party”.

It's one of my favorite documentaries.

The graphic novel was written during the Cold War 80s and the movie was made at the height of the Patriot Act frickery, so you do the math.

if you mean, single guy taking down a facist/totalitarian/communist style government:
Equilibrium
1984
Book of Eli (not government necessarily, but similar tone)
Snowpiercer
Children of Men
Atlas Shrugged (i like the politics of it, but the movie is awful)
running man
Elysium
Gattaca

It's originally written based on the concept of Margaret Thatcher's conservatism vs pure anarchism. Liberalism isn't really a point in the graphic novel at all (unless you're making the stretch that Liberalism = Anarchism, but that conceit would basically equate to Conservatism = Fascism, both of what are patently absurd). The idea isn't "government should provide for all" but rather "government shouldn't exist at all." The word "
conservative" isn't in the movie script at all:
Script for V for Vendetta
So basically, you saw a Fascist government who targeted people who were different (pretty much a staple of any fascist regime) and thought, "Damn, they're targeting conservatives!"
I don't know if that equates to you having a victim complex, you seeing fascists and immediately thinking "those look like Republicans to me", or if you just REALLY need to find something in everything you watch to piss you off.
But basically:
The graphic novel was written by Alan Moore who hated the government for not removing nuclear weapons from British soil, so he wrote a novel for the "all government sucks" idea of anarchism. The movie, made in 2005, was during the era of the Patriot Act but is still pretty faithful o the original concept of "government = bad". The basic idea is that a government given too much power, any kind of government, and it's a bad thing - most governments do this by instilling fear in their populace, fear of the "different" or the "not normal". The whole "fear leads to anger" is in force.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

crazy how well it matches up with Fauci and company working on Covid and the folks getting rich off of vaccines and boosters and more boosters and yet even more boosters.

V was was the same guy that played the main “Agent” in Matrix. “ Mmmr. Anderson”. Always find that amusing.

while you are correct that the word is never spoken in the movie, it does show up on the screen as being the party of those in power

How does that show that the conservatives are in power?
It says they are 5%.
Norsefire is in power.

One of the most depressing movies I've ever seen.

He is probably assuming that it is an offshoot of the Conservatives, which is probably wrong also. Based on that chart, I bet a ton of Labour also defected to the fasicsts.
