HBO Max and Discovery Plus Will Be Combined Into One Platform
quote:

Discovery — which is about to become Warner Bros. Discovery within the next month, when its merger with AT&T’s WarnerMedia closes — has confirmed its plans to combine its current streaming service Discovery Plus and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max into one service, rather than offer the two platforms as a bundle.

But before they are combined, Wiedenfels says the first step during integration will be some form of bundling, while the new company figures out the best way to merge the two platforms.

I'm guessing if you're an ad-free HBO Max subscriber nothing will change for you except additional content.

If you're a Discovery+ subscriber you'll get some sort of 3 month discounted HBO Max subscription. Then you'll have to start paying the $15/mo.

I was also thinking the other day after reading about the merger getting closer, if they'll change the name of HBO Max. Warner Discovery Max sounds way too long but it does more accurately tell people what content is on the service.

When HBO Max first launched I had to tell a ton of people that it was more than just HBO content. Whoever chose that name didn't do them any favors. Similar to CBS All Access.

I like this a lot. Discovery plus has some cool content, but not enough to be worth a subscription, imo. I had been considering dropping HBOGo, but this will definitely rule that out. Can't wait to start watching all of the Josh Gates shows again.

Discovery+ is endless haystacks of reality trash with few, if any, needles.

If they merge all of the content onto one platform, good luck finding the HBO content amongst all of that garbage from Discovery+.

this wont be that huge of a deal. I see it going like Disney + is with NatGeo. its just another tile to click on for all Discovery + content.

Please don’t add CNN+ to it so you can hide the fact that no one will watch that shite.

Yeah, if it is included in my HBOmax sub, I'm cool with it. I would never pay for it separately.

With that said, the ID Channel is my go-to cable channel when I am stuck somewhere with no internet streaming options. Quality murder mystery programming 24/7 still undisturbed by reality tv programming.

Whereas, the rest of the Discovery+ channels (History, Sci, A&E, TLC) all went to shite and were ruined due to cheap reality tv programming. Once a year, those channels will produce a special show that will remind you how great those channels used to consistently be.

The problem with the streaming world is that everybody just assumed they could make an app and people would subscribe.

Kind of funny that people didn't like cable bundles where they were paying for channels they didn't want or need, and streaming services became the new thing because they offered an a la carte option.

Now the streaming services are starting to bundle together.

Yep. We’ve been subscribed from day 1, and it’s pretty much all my wife watches.

HBO Max is separated by HBO, DC, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, etc. I don't see the issue of adding Discovery, HGTV, A&E, and Lifetime pods. Shouldn't really be an issue with their current set up honestly.

Now if it were Discovery+ and Netflix combining I'd agree with you.

As stated above, this is a good thing because HGTV is porn for women and a lot of us husbands had to have discussions on why we didn't want to pay for additional HGTV content. I won this argument after HGTV previewed some of the expanded Magnolia content (Joanna's cooking show) and it turned out to be boring crap.

I doubt that HBO Max would alter their name because
A) They're already a success
B) The Discovery name evidently didn't blow the doors off of the streaming industry

The upside of this is that if they ever do away with free Max for HBO and AT&T customers, paying for it will be a no-brainer for both adult men and women.

I get HBO Max as part of my AT&T wireless plan. Hopefully that access will continue.
