Inflation Is Taking Biggest Toll on Nonwhites, WSJ Poll Shows

Inflation is the most regressive tax possible, and it hits the working poor and retirees on fixed income extremely hard. The poor in the US are more likely to be minorities - which might explain why whites are less likely to note the impact of inflation. Full article at link.

Inflation Is Taking Biggest Toll on Nonwhite Voters, WSJ Poll Shows
WSJ
Nonwhite voters are more likely than white voters to say the highest inflation in four decades is triggering major financial strain in their lives and that appears to be giving Republicans an opening with a growing segment of the electorate that traditionally favors Democrats, the latest Wall Street Journal poll shows.
Eight months before the midterm election, 35% of Black, Hispanic, Asian-American and other voters who said they were something other than white expressed that level of inflationary pain, compared with 28% for white voters. Black women and Hispanic men, both at 44%, reported the highest proportions of major strain among various demographic and gender combinations.
People with the lowest incomes also were most likely to report major financial challenges from inflation. Almost half with incomes of less than $60,000 reported major financial strain, while just 13% of those making $150,000 or more did so.
Some poll participants said they blame President Biden for inflation because he has taken actions to limit oil-and-gas drilling and pipelines in the U.S.
Roger Stephens, a 62-year-old mostly retired airplane mechanic who is Black and lives in the Harbor City neighborhood of Los Angeles, said gas is running close to $6 a gallon in his area. He is troubled by prices at the pump and those at grocery stores and restaurants.
“Uncle Joe has put us on a diet,” he said in a reference to Mr. Biden. “I like to have a steak once or twice a month. I can’t do it now.”
Mr. Stephens is a registered Democrat who said he twice voted for Democrat Barack Obama for president and then for Republican Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. He said he was more likely to back Republicans than Democrats in this year’s election. Inflation, he said, is one of the issues he is weighing.

Rising energy, food and services prices pushed inflation to 7.9% last month compared with a year ago. The Consumer Price Index, which measures the cost of goods and services, hasn’t been this high since it reached 8.4% in January 1982.

Rising prices and the economy were more often picked by nonwhite voters than white voters as the most important issue, 60% to 47%. Inflation also was a more important issue to Republicans and independent voters, while Democrats were nearly split between inflation (43%) and Russia/Ukraine (40%).

You know what? Okay. Sure. Inflation is racist. If this is what it takes... Can we now enact policy to prevent it?

The ones that most likely voted for potato and cackle are getting hit the hardest?
Anyone else enjoying the schadenfreude of this?

This. If you are considering retirement in 2022 or 2023, you might want to hold on and see what happens later this summer first. Things are going to get worse before they get better, especially with these sky high fuel prices influencing everything we buy over the next 6-12 months.

And now we know why some boomers keep working. My dad is one of them. He’s been setting up to retire July this year. I know my parents have been saving and investing their entire lives and should be good, but we shall see.

We need inflation programs. Let’s get some smart boards in classrooms.

Maybe they shouldn’t vote 90% for democrats.
Think they will learn?

Remember when people were pushing for $15/hour minimum wage?
How's that going now?

I was bringing up inflation to this black lady that works at a store that my business services and she said "dat wuz Trump" after I pointed out how rampant it's gotten since Biden has got in office. Democrats really have this wierd psychological edge with these people.

And somehow it’ll be cast as Trump’s fault by the Democrats and MSM.

fixed income
Technically, most everyone is on a "fixed income".
It's not like those that work for a living, whether hourly paid or salary based, can just have their income adjusted to whatever they want.

It's generational. They're born democrats and it doesn't matter what they do, everything horrible or bad they do is either the Republicans fault or gets spun as "well they had the right intentions". It's impossible for some people to ever NOT vote Democrat.
This is why polls always show dems are happy with their party and Republicans unhappy. Republicans refer to objective measures of life quality and expect their pols to improve that while dems rest on a general sense of emotional being. So a dem could be objectively worse across the board in all life quality measures and still find their way to being satisfied with their politicians. They exemplify the mindset of people that live in dictatorships. Dictators rarely take power by force, usually the people give them a chunk of power and then they keep biting off more and more and the people never think otherwise because well... he makes big promises about utopia... I'm sure utopia is just around the corner if I keep so supporting this guy... some day... well I have no more freedoms but utopia is coming, just wait, they've got the right heart, I'll do whatever it takes for utopia...it'll be here...eventually.
