I thought he died earlier than '77 so I'll just switch him w/Budd Holly.

Regardless, the point stands that older people have been saying the current popular music younger people listen to sucked since the beginning of radio.

20 years from now there will be GenZ people saying "Damn, music in the 2040s sucks! It's not great like back in the late 20teens early 2020's!"

If you think about it, back in the 1990’s classic rock was considered rock from the 1970’s, now 30 years later classic rock is still considered rock from the 1970’s. The new crap from the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s seemingly never broke into that genre despite being just as old now.

Might I recommend Cody Johnson.

Lots of good young Texas acts out there that play more old school type country and not that pop country Luke Bryan crap.

Inflation is going to be the biggest issue, and it’s not getting better.

Wait till mortgage loans go up. My first was 13%, and I bought 4 points to get it there. Todays average buyer in the housing market would get priced completely out at half that.

Once mortgage rates start climbing, the brakes will get slammed on hard. They should have raised rates by 1-2 points already to slow things, but the morons in charge won’t until inflation has completely gotten away from us.

Yeah, but what was the interest rate in your savings account?

Don’t recall. Lots higher than now for sure, but people these days seem to have less as a percentage of income in savings.

401k most have, which is less accessible for down payment/closing costs.

Says you! i love that stuff. It's far better than all these stark white houses and white/gray furniture that have invaded us.

I don't recall anyone ever complaining about the actual prices in the 1970's, they were more concerned with the scarcity and rationing.

I do. Might depend on what you were doing at the time, but yeah, I heard a lot of complaining about the price.

That's because wages were better. I looked at the gross median wage for the Beaumont metro area in 1970 ( closest to LA) and it was $9,600 for an accountant. In today's dollars that would be $69,000. The average accountant in America's median wages in 2022 is $50,112. I am sure they are far lower in Louisiana.

I used the Fraser area wage survey/economic data report for the 1970's.

This is kind of off topic, but I was at my mom's house earlier this week.. And we were just having a conversation about what's going on in Ukraine and she said she remembers when she was in high school and everyone having to meet in the gym to learn about communism. This was the late 50s, but I never knew they were making kids in school aware of communism and why they should reject it, etc.

We learned about different political systems in high school in the 70s, you didn't?

It wasn't an overt "Democratic Republic good, communism bad," kind of thing, but yeah we compared the two systems, along with monarchies.

Maybe it wasn't based solely on time. It was "classic" because it was the Rock that instructed all to follow. The originators, the godfathers, the innovators, the legends...
Why would "the new crap" be considered classic? Some of it is very good, but for the most part it's not near as influential. (Some great exceptions of course.)

I remember the 70s enough to know it makes nowadays seem like a utopia.

Lead paint and gas, terrible fashion, nasty shag carpet and crappy furniture. Out of control inflation, unemployment and interest rates. Pollution, litter and cig. butts were everywhere. Nobody gave a damn and it seemed like every adult smoked… inside.

A nuclear war could start any minute, but news traveled slower then so we’d have never known before being vaporized.

Great Rock and Roll bands and much better country music was its only saving grace.

Hate to burst your bubble bro, but we still have enemies now and those enemies still have nukes. You had TV and radio then and Civil Defense warnings. Everybody knew that it would take about 20 minutes for missiles from Russia to fly here, less if launched from a close by submarine. It really isn't any different, except now you have minor rogue states who hate us with nukes, more biological weapons, and cyber attacks, which could be crippling.

But there was shag carpeting, avocado fridges, leisure suits, and disco. We mostly wore jeans and t-shirts, that much we could control. And if you were smoking bad weed in the 70s, that was your fault.

Quit listening to garbage on the radio. if you use spotify, take advantage of their algorithms. Go to a band you like, go to that artist's radio, and you'll have a big list of songs from that band and similarly styled artists. I find new music I like almost every day.

Would also add: It was safe for elementary school kids to play outside all day unsupervised. City parks weren't supervised. Little League baseball fields could be played on all day if games, or practices weren't scheduled. There were lots of places to play sanlot baseball and football. People let kids play in fields/vacant lots, and we did, but no one sued the property owner if someone got hurt playing baseball, or football.
