Exxon temporarily shuts gasoline unit at Baton Rouge Refinery

I'm not especially close to this industry, but I believe these decisions are made well in advance.

As somebody who worked at the XOM Baytown Refinery on the planning side I can tell you yeah planned work is scheduled months or sometimes years in advance in the case of major turnarounds.

Why is this even news? Turnarounds are scheduled and completed every year.

There is more than one cracker (FCC) in the Baton Rouge Exxon refinery. Shutting one down won’t stop production .

Major turnarounds are required to have milestones at certain intervals and the complex ones like this are typically 4 years or more in the planning phase. They also strategically work them generally this time of year or early 4th quarter for most of the bigger ones.

Well your post absolutely implies this news of a shutdown will adversely affect prices at the pump.
Planned outages don't affect supply chain/price whether it's gasoline or toilet paper(further up 61).
