We just need to schedule smarter like Will Wade does in basketball. Get a few more not well known but good RPI OOC teams to come here to not only help us in the RPI but give our guys better look than batting practice and watching teams commit 2,3,4 errors a game.

People bitched about it, but that's what Bryant was when we scheduled them.

In addition to the schools you named, Charlotte, Indiana State, a large number of Big West or WCC schools would be cool. A home and home with Grand Canyon would be cool. Their facilities are absurd and they were getting like 5K people opening weekend.

You do realize we play in-state teams 14 times already this year, right?

ok? and? This is a way to make those match ups interesting and have a great fan experience. Why does the number of in state games matter at all?

Serious question...what is a better use of the last weekend before conference play.... a proposed Louisiana classic like this, or a series with bethune-cookman?

Also, there are a ton of other schools in driving distance to play mid-week games against.

I do agree with this.

If we're willing to play South Alabama or Lamar mid week, we should be willing to play Southern Miss or Sam Houston mid week.

Because the average people are clueless, not really relevant though.

In the end, playing out of state schools, especially schools that have to travel due to weather early, makes way more sense early on in the season on weekends than anything else which is why we do that...we just need to avoid the Towson's/Maine's of the world and schedule better.

Also, Southern 2x this weekend is absolutely asinine.

Ok cool...I'm sure you have a dream scheduling scenario that'll also never come to fruition. I for one think this would be a hell of a lot more fun than a series against a swac team...but that's just me

Why would we play even more games when we already play so much? The point of mid-week games is to play local teams because the travel is convenient. this is why we do it. We dont need to play these teams on the weekend too, we already play them a bunch during the week.

The early season OOC games we should branch out and play teams that have to travel anyways, like teams from the north where the weather sucks, or play a good series against a team from California, etc...

We should be branching out more, not playing more games against Louisiana teams than we already do

To answer your last question, neither. We've had interesting series the weekend before SEC play in the past, just not this season. We played Cal a few years ago, we played Wichita State as well.

And I've said this schedule sucks. We shouldn't be playing them on the weekend.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing a lot of weekends like this in the years going forward.

And in week 1 especially you can grab a decent midwest mid major that has been able to practice outside some and will make noise in their conference. Missouri State, Indiana State, Iowa, Illinois, Evansville.

I really wish I could remember the thing I put together several years ago as a blue print for how to schedule.

You still go need a weekend against a Maine or Towson, but not a weekend against Maine and a weekend against Towson.

These 4 game weekends are probably not going away though. From listening to someone (I don't remember who), this is something he likes to do to simulate coming through the loser's bracket in a regional.

It also replaces a 2-game midweek week we typically have which is rough, like playing on Tuesday/Wednesday after playing on Fri-Sun then playing on Fri-Sun again.

This is the first season I can remember we arent playing 2 games in the mid-week at any point. I'd rather just attach an extra game on a weekend like we are, like you said to simulate playing more tournament style ball.

This and we aren't skipping a mid week for finals. That takes out the two two-game midweeks.

I already said...just replace Louisiana teams on midweek with other close by teams. not mentioned in classic was UNO, ULM, SLU, NSU, Nicholls, grambling, southern. Nearby we got Lamar, Sam Houston, SFA, Southern miss, Alcorn state etc...we could easily fill our midweek without ULL, tech and Tulane

We should never play any SWAC teams not located in Louisiana.

They are RPI anchors, they are not competitive on the field.

If Grambling wasn't in Louisiana, I'd say never play them either. Southern actually had a good coach in Kerrick Jackson, but I think he saw the dysfunction of the school and bolted to be the commissioner of a summer league. They are a shell of what they were under Roger Cador.

I'd be game if we have it in the Dome every year and guarantee LSU the lion's share of the revenue from the game.

We play these teams mid-week all the time, there's no reason for this.

Mid-week games are not the same as weekend games. We all know this.

No one is suggesting giving up an SEC series.

Having a series with Tech/Tulane/USL would be a lot better than hosting Maine.

And you would still have teams you can play locally in mid-weeks.

This year we play 13 mid-week games. You could do:
2 Southern
2 UNO
2 Southeastern
2 Southern Miss

That leaves 5. There are always northern teams that want co come spend a couple of weeks down here, that you could tuck in a couple of midweeks with.

You also have Grambling, Nicholls, McNeese, Lamar, ULM.

That's 13 even without considering northern teams for mid-weeks.
