That makes sense.

Wrong. System = batteries = 6-8 launchers.

The Dictator's Dilemma... if you tell Putin bad news or something he doesn't want to hear, you fall out of a window. So you don't tell him bad news or something he doesn't want to hear (Xi apparently does not get told anything at all).

The invasion of Ukraine had been planned since the collapse of the Soviet Union...

It has been put into action since the day Putin took office... the initial part was political, getting a devoted leader in charge, like in Belarus... if that had worked then military action would not have been necessary. But it did not, so create a border dispute to take NATO membership off the table (Crimea, the Donbas "independent republics,") and then millions of dollars have been spent in Ukraine on PR and persuasion, convincing the public that Russia is the better partner and that the West are evil and corrupt and that they are actually Russian people who should be part of Russia... and this indeed did work on some of the population...

But Putin was told that it had worked on all of them, and that he would be welcomed as a liberating hero. (The people in charge or these programs fell out of windows later in second day of the invasion). Putin was told Zelensky and his cabinet would flee the minute they saw the mighty Russian army pouring over the border, and that there would be no resistance.

There was no real military plan at the beginning of the invasion because they didn't believe there would be any resistance. Remember back to some Russian troops in the eastern part of Ukraine not having rations or ammo? Not even being told what they were doing... that it was just a friendly joint exercise, and being surprised when ordinary Ukrainians shot or screamed at them?

Gas fields along EU pipelines

Huh?

The main land pipeline to Europe from Russia for decades has been through Ukraine to the hub in Austria.

While Ukraine's conventional oil and gas reserves had been depleted, it had given concessions to Shell, in the Donbas, Chevron, in Crimea and offshore, and Exxon, west of the Dnipro. They were to develop the known tight shale formations like we've done in the US. This was before Russia invaded in 2014

Exactly. Pumping gas in Ukraine close to that existing pipeline netwrok is a heck of a lot cheaper than pumping it in Russia. Plus Ukraine could have cut off or reduced Russia's access pipeline and pumped their own gas through the pipelines network to Europe. Also the main supplier of jet engines for Russian helicopters prior to 2014 was located in Kharkiv and the main supplier to steel used in Russian tanks was Azov steel in Marupol.

Another factor in their success is that their weapons have improved...

Enemy used new X-69 missile to strike Trypilska TPP - Defense Express
11.04.2024 21:31

The Russian occupation forces used new X-69 cruise missiles to strike the Trypilska thermal power plant.

This is reported by Defense Express, citing sources, Ukrinform reports.

"During the attack on the Trypilska TPP, the enemy used its new X-69 cruise missiles, which allowed it to completely destroy the most powerful power plant in the Kyiv region. This is evidenced by the found wreckage of this missile," the report says.

According to the publication, the range of these missiles was about 400 km. This parameter exceeds the previous known estimates of the range of the X-69 - 300 km.

Defense Express notes that this is not the first use of the X-69 to strike Ukraine, the first mention of their use appeared in February 2024. However, there were isolated cases of its use as early as 2023.

The X-69 is a Russian subsonic cruise missile for tactical aircraft. It can be launched from Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft. "Its characteristics available at the time indicated a range of up to 290 kilometers, but in practice it turned out to be longer. The weight of the warhead was declared to be 310 kg... And the main feature is the possibility of ultra-low flight at an altitude of 20 meters, which is lower than the capabilities of the X-101," the publication writes.

None of this indicates some evidence of a Putin grand scheme to invade Europe and defeat the West through arms. One could say the same for any number of despots. This is a childlike analogy used to support the notion that Russia is poised to invade Europe if we don't act now. Utter nonsense and propaganda but sadly it is effective.

I called this after the strikes on Russian oil rigs ramped up and was told I was crazy

IIRC if I told you if you were crazy but I did say that it would be strategically crazy for Russia to attack Ukraine's power infrastructure right now. Maybe you thought I was talking about you but I was talking about the idea of attacking Ukraine's infrastructure. Pretty much anyone with a lick of sense realized that Russia was going to strike back at Ukraine for the oil strikes.

Attacking Ukraine's power infrastructure this time of year is a mistake, because this time of year is quite pleasant in Ukraine so heating and cooling is not an issue. The Ukrainian people have adapted outside of the government agencies. Very few Ukrainian families do not have a backup generator or battery backup or a know where to go to get access to power. All of the major industry has added backup power sources to their plants. The Ukrainian's have also increased their ability to repair the transmission grid and import power from Europe. Another reason why Russia attacking Ukraine's infrastructure this time of year is a mistake is because the only weapons that are consistently getting through to hit energy targets are hypersonic missiles and ballistic missiles. IMO it would have been much more strategically sound to build up its reserves of hypersonic and ballistic missiles and saved them until November or December. Then Russia could have launched even larger scale attacks or more frequent attacks that would have crippled the production and transmission of electricity across Ukraine and limited their ability to adapt. Right now Russia is launching one or 2 successful attacks per week which gives Ukraine time to repair any damage to the transmission system and import power from Europe to make up for lost generating capacity.

That’s somewhere between 900 and 1800 launchers. Depending on the number of batteries, and the number of launchers per battery.

There are countless examples throughout this thread of Russia striking schools outside of the battlefield area.

Please provide some.

"The Ukrainian military has routinely set up bases in schools in towns and villages in Donbas and in the Mykolaiv area. Schools have been temporarily closed to students since the conflict began, but in most cases the buildings were located close to populated civilian neighbourhoods

At 22 out of 29 schools visited, Amnesty International researchers either found soldiers using the premises or found evidence of current or prior military activity – including the presence of military fatigues, discarded munitions, army ration packets and military vehicles.

Russian forces struck many of the schools used by Ukrainian forces. In at least three towns, after Russian bombardment of the schools, Ukrainian soldiers moved to other schools nearby, putting the surrounding neighbourhoods at risk of similar attacks.

In a town east of Odesa, Amnesty International witnessed a broad pattern of Ukrainian soldiers using civilian areas for lodging and as staging areas, including basing armoured vehicles under trees in purely residential neighbourhoods, and using two schools located in densely populated residential areas."

Ukraine still uses Soviet terminology . In Soviet terminology a battery is called a system. A launcher or a group of launchers in a given location is a battery. Since the Patriot only has one launcher in a given location 1 launcher is synonymous with 1 battery. Do you not remember when Russia destroyed the Patriot launcher in February? It was reported as a battery was lost but all the video just showed a launcher being destroyed.

BBC reporting out of kyiv today, sounds like the citizens are fed up. No power, water, shops closed, subway running sparingly. About 20% of the population has already left the country, most of the middle and upper class. Couple the latest assaults on the power grid with the lowering of the draft age to send more ukranians to their death.....expect the exodus to continue.

By the time ilt ends they may have half the population they had when they got their independence back in 91. And those left will be poor, uneducated, maimed, with a country destroyed and full of mines.

Dont worry zelensky will be in milan, miami or monaco courtesy of the US taxpayer.

zelensky and hamas both getting filthy rich, they just have to keep ensuring their own people are slaughtered. .

Flooding in Russia hits Kurgan along with Russia's only BMP manufacturer to go underwater - Defense Express

There, evacuations have already been announced from areas that are sure to go underwater, and at the highest level, the water will flood most of the city. This is evidenced by official maps from the local city administration.

The territory of Kurganmashzavod manufacturing company is the most interesting in this situation because it is the only Russian manufacturer of new infantry (all BMP-3 and BMP-4 fighting vehicles are manufactured there) and airborne fighting vehicles.

On the map of flooding forecasts, its area is within the 12-meter mark. All hopes of the city authorities are on favorable natural circumstances. The peak of the water rise is expected by April 14.

12 meters that is almost 40 feet of flood water. I bet those plant baws are rushing to get stuff up as high as they can and get sandbags around the rest. Flood water cannot be good for the equipment used to build the BMPs.

That is not the only example? Colt has been first to report on every single Russia missile strike recently. Dude is literally posting on here within 5 minutes of the first posts appearing on X or telegram. He is either getting paid by Mother Russia, sitting in his parent's basement scrolling through X and telegram just looking for news about the war when normal Americans (I am assuming he is American since he claims to be an LSU fan) are relaxing before going to bed, or getting alerts on his phone and rushing here to gush over Mother Russia's struggles to subdue a country that is not a real country.
