The half-submerged remains of the Novocherkask large landing ship are just visible in this photo from Feodosia in Ukraine's Russian-occupied Crimea this morning. It looks like the ship has been destroyed - not just damaged as Moscow claims. #Crimea #Kaboom

This would explain some of the problems with shells.

Explains a lot, evidently.
Gonna be a lot of wealthy ex Ukranians when its all over. The battle is generating a lot of wealth.

What problems? I've read a lot recently about Russian problems with the North Korean shells that they received, but I'm unaware of any systematic Ukrainian problems.

The war has bankrupted countless Ukrainian businessmen. A great many factories have been destroyed by Russian bombings, farmers near the front lines can't harvest their crops, shipping out of Ukrainian ports was shut down for a year, etc. Electricity outages last winter meant that industries and business were frequently idled. The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam destroyed irrigation systems and water supplies for a vast area in southern Ukraine.
Overall, the war caused the Ukrainian economy to contract by 35% in 2022. It's rebounded some this year, but Russia's invasion has caused incredible economic devastation across Ukraine.
It's certainly true that Ukraine still has work to do in its fight against corruption, but "generating a lot of wealth"? Saying that is as stupid as it is evil.

Not having enough.
With western aid stalled, Ukrainian troops run low on artillery shells.
quote:
“If the situation doesn’t change, or even worsens, we will not be able to suppress them and they will push us back,” Artem said. “What can you do with 10 shells per day? It is barely enough to respond to their advances — we are not even talking about attacking their positions.”
Insufficient supplies of shells have been a persistent problem for Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the current shortage during his year-end news conference last week, though he insisted that the military was holding strong.

It’s really funny you don’t hear from all the Putin lovers when things like this happen. I guess because there’s no possible way they can spin it as no big deal. Honestly what’s even more important than that landing ship sitting at the bottom of the port is the fact that it is sitting at the bottom of the PORT which means it’s blocking all those loading cranes and that isn’t changing anytime soon. It’s going to take them a long time to get that sunken ship out of the way so they can reuse that docking spot to load/offload materials. Have they said if it was the sea baby drones, Neptune or StormShadow launched from Su-24s yet?

I can see the Russian media now. “Russia adds to it’s mighty submarine fleet converting a surface ship to perform underwater operations.”

I think they could use those same cranes with drop knives (thick steel plates pointed like a knife and dropped from a height) to cut that into pieces and then yank it out fairly quickly. I bet it could be done in thirty days, since I doubt they are that worried about pollution.

The commander of the air force issued a statement thanking the pilots. That's all I've seen so far.

Ukraine has confirmed that the attack was carried out with Storm Shadow missiles.

Then 2 Su-24M were the launching platform. So much for Russia saying they had destroyed them all.

Where did you come up with this idea, seriously laughable.
Some Ginzu steel plates?

I have years of experience in marine salvage and this idea is exactly opposite of what the easiest technique would be: to run cables under the hull at intervals amidships and then individually pull each cable up, using the weight of the wreck to force the cable through the hull to section it into manageable lengths to recover.

More bad news for Putin:
EDIT: The above report was incorrect. The Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee approved it and has forwarded it to the full Parliament for a vote.

The first low-resolution @planet satellite images of the Feodosia port, captured on December 26 at 11:25 local time, show that one more vessel (yellow square) is indeed partially sunk following the Ukrainian strike on the 'Novocherkassk' landing ship.

I’ve seen it. It works, and you don’t need a huge crane to try to lift the whole thing.

The weight you would need for not a barge or lightly built ship is far more than you likely have seen
