As too the Russians doing an organized disciplined retreat-lol. Chances are slightly better in Putin winning Nobel peace prize this year.
The Russian used to be good at scorched earth type retreats

Speaking of the Pooter, I know he doesn’t appear when there’s bad news but this seems especially strange. He had personally ordered that the troops in Kherson remain there and defend the city from advancing Ukes.
What swayed him to back down, this man who usually double-downed when faced with adversity? The new commander of the military, Sergey Surovikin? He’s supposed to be even more brutal than Putin.
Any chance Surovikin is mutinying? Putin is being awfully quiet.

Isn’t the Kakhovka district sparsely populated? I think there’s also a very large “desert” national park there. It may be undefendable.

Ukrainian forces are completing the liberation of the western (right) bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast.
Ukrainian troops have made major territorial gains throughout Kherson Oblast on November 11 and will continue consolidating control of the western bank in the coming days.
Russian milbloggers criticized the Russian MoD’s statements about the Russian withdrawal to the left bank but generally took a more muted attitude to Ukrainian gains.
Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations towards Kreminna and Svatove, Luhansk Oblast, and Ukrainian forces targeted Russian logistics in rear Luhansk Oblast.
Russian forces continued ground assaults around Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Vuhledar.
Ukrainian forces continued to target Russian force concentrations in Zaporizhia Oblast.
Wagner Group financer Yevgeny Prigozhin continued to form parallel military structures in Belgorod and Kursk oblasts, even though there is no threat of a Ukrainian ground invasion into Russian territory.

Yes it is sparsely populated and there is a large sand dune national park. It is the type of terrain that Ukraine has excelled in and Russia has struggled in.
BTW, I spoke with my former roommate today and he said to keep an eye on the east in the coming weeks. He also said if you see video of a tank flying an LSU flag or a tank with Roll Tide ??? ?? ????! painted on the side that is him.

No, Surovikin was chosen for this role specifically to implement this retreat. This has been inevitable since the Kerch Bridge was put out of commission.
The small lumber company owned by Surovikin's wife recently got a $1.3 million payment from a company owned by a Putin crony. He's not mutinying; he's getting paid to play a role.

Can we just take a moment to think about the fact that Russia is getting their arse kicked by this.

It helps when the dog has HIMARS.

Putin 'has been offered surrender terms by the West' as he loses control of Kherson - and 'his cronies have reacted positively because it allows them to stay in power and avoid criminal charges'
* Vladimir Putin has been offered surrender terms by Ukraine and allies, a prominent Russian academic said
* Plan would see Russia give up all territory in Ukraine except Crimea, which would become demilitarised zone.
* In return, Putin and cronies would avoid war crimes prosecution and remain in power, Valery Solovey claimed.
* Details emerged as Russian troops fled Kherson, with Ukraine liberating the city after eight-month occupation.
* Putin's forces fled east across the Dnipro River, with Ukrainians painting a picture of a chaotic retreat, that saw Russian troops ditching their uniforms or drowning while trying to escape

If true that’s a solid framework to be honest. Would need to formalize the seized assets being used to pay reparations and would need to see a general prohibition of military build up along either border. I would also require Putin recreate the MacArthur-Hirohito photo with Biden just for the lulz.
But until then, any guess as where the next big thrust in this conflict happens? Can Ukraine push to melitopol and east through the rest of kherson oblast as winter sets in?

It depends on just how bad the supply issues get in the South. And taking Kherson puts a lot more of those supply routes in HIMARS range, so maybe they can.
But we should fully expect Ukraine to continue to make progress in northern Luhansk.

There are really only two offensive fronts available for Ukraine, 1) continuation of the offensive in the Svatove direction or 2) push towards Melitopol or Mariupol via the gap between Zaporizhzhia/Donetsk.

It's still hard to get my head wrapped around the wonderful fact that the city of Kherson has been retaken without it being flattened.
Still lots of cleaning up to do. The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence estimates that over half (around 20,000) of the Russian troops on the right bank are still there.
This entire push and recapture of the right bank just seems to have been done without resistance from the Russians. The news keeps getting better and better.

quote:On November 10, Ukrainian deputy military intelligence chief Vadym Skibitsky stated that
More than half of Russian forces stationed on the right bank of Dnipro river before russian command decided to withdraw from the stronghold are still there, Defense Intelligence of Ukraine informs. The statement contradicts the russian claim that all the forces were evacuated from the west of Dnipro to fortified positions of the other bank.
quote:However it now seems that little fighting is going on. Are we going to see news of large numbers of Russian POW's soon?
"The most recent information we have is, the 4th Tactical Military Base has supposedly been transferred to the left bank. The rest are still there, fighting, conducting military activities with the aim of providing cover for others to leave,"
