With all the authoritarianism going on in Canada, I post this thread just to remind you that when these sorts of "Big Brother" intrusions occur, they're never sold as a way to target normal, everyday folks. However, this is the very technology that will be used against you when/if you decide to fight other injustices of government.
It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has created a one-stop access point for surveillance technology with its Real Time Crime Center, which uses video surveillance to increase how law enforcement responds to crimes and solves cases.
quote:
The captain estimates the center currently has access to 1,700 cameras around the parish, a combination of traffic cameras, public surveillance cameras from multiple law enforcement agencies and private security cameras, as well as in-unit dash cameras in sheriff’s office vehicles and deputies’ body worn cameras.
quote:
Compared with an officer on the street, now the department can see more and see it quicker because they have a bird’s eye view of the area through the camera network. They also don’t have to worry about the safety of their surroundings from the office, Goodrich said.

Their wet dream
All kidding aside the amount of freedoms people have given up since the patriot act under the guise of safety is scary. I was one of those that initially supported it like many others after 9/11 and now here we are spied on constantly by those that are supposed to protect us. Slippery slopes are very real and dangerous.

It's to lower insurance rates by cracking down on uninsured motorists. At least that was the reasoning behind all the LPR's in Bossier Parish.

Apparently over the weekend it was do donuts in intersections day.
I saw numerous black marks yest that weren’t there previously.

If anyone has ever watched UK crime shows, "CCTV" is basically the magic used almost EVERY time to catch the criminals.

I'm mostly curious which private security cameras are being used. A FOIA would probably clear that up.

Why? In what way did this affect you and in what way would your life be better if they catch someone that left black marks in intersections but to do so they have to spy on everyone?

CCTV might as well be a British special agent

The private security cameras are ones where a business has a contract with a security company which utilizes police response to issues. Live monitoring is part of the contract. They're not doing this without the owner's permission.

just like in the movies. its coming in about a decade. at that point there is nothing we can do ever without being watched.
i mean they can already tell who you are with, when walking they can tell where you are in the group, who is the leader of the group etc.

The beginning of the end occurred when “smart” phones were made available to everyone. Way too much power for most individuals.

I assume it would be people who see giving access to the police as an asset but I am curious as well. It may also be some of the security services that rent cameras as part of their security systems?
Here is an interesting article on wired.
When Private Security Cameras Are Police Surveillance Tools

The illusion is a group of offices watching the monitors. The reality is an algorithm(s) filtering all the images. How those algorithms work is were the abuse of rights will be ignored or trampled.
