Joe Son, the UFC fighter who was Random Task in the Austin Powers movies, got identified by a DNA test as part of a gang rape and sent to jail.
IIRC, the crime he committed to end up subject to the DNA test was public urination.

It’s an interesting practice that might have to go to scotus
SCOTUS ruled in the past it’s legal to collect suspect’s trash to get DNA evidence because they no longer have a right to privacy with it
Here the women are consenting to have their dna collected
Issue would be if they have a right to privacy with it still after consenting and submitting it

Just wait until the government gets everyone's DNA from 23andMe or AncestryDNA.
If they don't have it already.

What kind of crimes are we talking about? I don't think they are using DNA to solve burglaries or white collar crimes. I imagine this would be for murders and the like.

I have no problem with this.
If you murder someone and then get raped, that may be karma, but you still should do time for the murder.

So, police state then?
yea frick that.
if the last year hasnt shown my fellow far right that the back the blue movement is dumb as frick...dunno what will.
so slippy will you feel the same way once they make things you do illegal? because we are moving in that direction.

Its a tricky thought process...
But if someone committed a serious enough crime to where they left DNA behind, I guess I don't care how they are caught.

It would only have to be after the law goes into effect...otherwise it would be ex post facto.

They're not doing DNA swabs for ticky tack shite. If they have your DNA and are looking for you it's probably a fairly serious crime.

I guess it depends on whether you feel that the goal of the legal system should be to protect law-abiding citizens, or to punish those who break the law.

Can’t it be both?
Getting people off the street who commit crimes, especially violent crimes, tends to protect law abiding citizens.

How many women that get raped committed a violent crime before?
That can’t be high number

Can’t it be both?
quote:It usually tends to, but IMO it's a question of our motivation for enforcing the law. If our guiding principle is to protect law abiding citizens, then we probably wouldn't discourage people from reporting crimes as serious as rape. If our guiding principle is to punish, then it sort of becomes more about quantity.

I don't have a problem with it because, somewhere else there was a victim of a crime that remains unsolved. What if that crime the rape victim did was murder or something else just as heinous.
