New Construction Lawn

Looking for a recommendation for a grass type for my new construction. Sod is out of the question because 20+ pallets would be needed. Was looking at Zenith Zoysia. Location is Thibodaux La.

we did sod...15 pallets...had 4 laborers lay it in 2 days. Definitely worth it not having to deal with the dirt and mud any more.

We’re in a similar spot with our new construction. We have about an acre so sodding cost would be ridiculous. Starting to look into Hydroseeding which is way cheaper than sod and comes up faster than plain seed. Got a quote for $4k for Bermuda. Asked about zoysia and it was more than double. From everything I’ve read while possible to grow zoysia from seed it’s a lot slower to come up and fill in than Bermuda.

You want to seed it? Good luck
You could sod to a certain extent around the house and seed the extremities.
Also remember when seeding, it still needs water. It’s not a set it and forget it deal and it’s difficult to rely on rain water

20 pallets isn't really that much sod.

Have 1 acre with a 2400 sq ft. house just built. In October we put down 22 pallets of centipede and still will need around 3 more to finish up. It was $150 a pallet, $200 to have 20 delivered and placed around house.
Laid out the sod with 2 others and it took us a whole weekend but wasn't that bad with cold beer and good music playing.

It is difficult to grow a whole lawn from warm season grass seed. Maybe sod the front, sides, and 20 feet off the back with bermuda or zoysia. You could then seed the back 40 and take your time filling that in.

Bermuda. Easy to maintain from weeds

What did you end up doing? Did it work out?

This is the perfect project to order sod and have some laborers from the Home Depot parking lot put it down.
Pay em $10/hr, might cost you $400-$500 labor total

Just built and seeded with Bermuda. The grass is coming in good but so are the weeds. Not sure if sod is a better solution for the $. I need 20 pallets for the front yard. $5500 is hard to part with after building a house just for grass.
