Maple's travel log - Nova Scotia to S. LA

she was tagged on 9/14/21 and has travelled approx. 2,750 miles in 90 days paralleling the coastline and into the GOM. Latest ping is near the Mississippi Canyon

researchers believe the wound on her side is from a larger shark

story about Maple's catch & release

I'm no marine biologist, but standing next to live great white shark's mouth with no shoes on seems like a pretty stupid idea.

I get what you’re saying - but I don’t think shoes would help if she decided she was hungry.

I would think laying the shark out like that without support of the water would really damage the internals, but maybe not.

This team really has their shite together on it all besides this one hitting prop. I love watching videos and their attention to detail on taking care of the sharks. Before they started tracking, I didn’t know that great whites came into gulf.

Odds the guy on a sea world research vessel are from South Louisiana?

Curious what shoes would do if a great white chomped down?

Does the salt water sting the sharks wounds? Sounds pretty awful getting tossed in salt water after getting chewed up by a prop.

In the early 90s a spearfishing padnah said he saw a great white while diving the canyon rigs - at that time I dont think great whites were reported off LA, obviously that info has changed.
I dont think it paid any interest in him but it was a big a## shark that got his attention

Neither are you if you think someone working on that research vessel is necessarily from S. La...
