Is it a given that governments would tell us if they knew an astroid was going to hit?

What are the criteria when they would TRY to conceal it?

4km wide rock headed towards the vicinity of a populated area in 1 or 2 years, they certainly tell people right? Do they sell their properties and move aid into position first?

If it's projected to hit Greenland maybe they don't so they have a leg up to get into strategic position for the long winter ahead?

I personally think they would tell the public, but they never do in the movies.

It’s More likely that they would lie and say an asteroid was going to hit in order to take more control of our lives.

To save lives? As somebody else alluded to, the authoritarians would enjoy it.

Besides, it seems nobody can keep a secret these days.

There are too many commercial satellites and astronomers/private citizens for the government(s) to be the only ones that notice.

Zero chance they would be able to hide it. There are too many astronomers out there that would also detect the same thing.

They didn’t say shite about the solar flares that were supposed to hit in 2012. First article about it was a couple years after it happened

No, but I just looked it up and see why you'd say that. It's just the first remote landmass I could think of. I took the idea from Randall Carlson's episode on JRE.

Very few, probably no telescopes would see a 4 kilometer across rock quietly cruising through space 2 years away

You see it as it passes and calculate when you'll cross paths again. These things tend to orbit the sun on a similar plane as the Earth.

Quite the contrary. They would be busily stocking up their bunkers with supplies ,sex slaves and champaign. Wouldn't want to cause a panic

I understand that for a 4K across rock is an incredibly tiny object in the vastness of space. We’re still discovering moons the size of planets just because we haven’t noticed them before LOL

LOL. These idiots would deny it until they couldn’t anymore, with all efforts going into bunkers to save themselves.

That would do a hell of a lot more than impact a populated area

There is a 124 mile wide hole in the ground that wiped out almost all life on Earth from an asteroid not much bigger than that

There isnt even a point in knowing. Its billions of people dead event and you dont get to choose who
