What are the most common? As an outsider, it feels like everyone is a Landry or Landreau.

All very common Cajuns...walk up to anyone with this last name and embrace them as a brother from Acadiana

Up in Maine a few years back my gf's last name was Thibodeau. And yes it was spelled like that.

There is a difference between CAjun and French. Cajun is specific to the diaspora from Acadie (now part of Nova Scotia)

Also not that a lot of supposedly French names are actually German but slightly changed They come mostly from along the Mississippi River

Here is the list of actual Cajun surnames

Fontenot, Beauchamps, Trahan. Bergeron is another, pronounced bahjerahn. I happen to have one that's pretty uncommon.

It depends on which region you're in. Surnames in the prairie region will be different than the ones in the bayou region. With some being common in both regions. Then there's also the cajuns along the river in between BR and Nola.

some of the common ones in my experience in Acadiana are: Fontetnot, Trahan, Hebert, Boudreaux, Dugas, Richard, Savoie and Gautreaux. I'm sure there's others that I could point out in a lineup but off top I am drawing a blank.
