Delivery fees are getting out of hand

My local pizza hut is 2 miles from my house and they were wanting to charge me a $4.50 delivery fee on a $15 order. I still don't even know what this fee is for since it doesn't go to the driver. Seems excessive to me.

Stop being lazy and drive the 4 mile round trip and pick it up?

If they’re two miles away, get your lazy arse up and pick it up.

That's what I ended up doing.

I swear you kids today would have starved to death in the 80s. A lazier group has never been seen.

Seems cheap to me..
A 30% fee for something that doesn't go to the person who brings my order and nobody even knows wtf it is for?

It's profit for the restaurant, just like all fees you are charged for anything you buy.

Is your time not worth $4.50?

You’re complaining about paying $4.50 to not have to leave your house? Either make more money or stop being lazy.

Reataurants employing drivers still need to pay insurance, fuel, and wages, even though it doesnt directly go to the driver as a tip it's still paying for the delivery service.

What was the delivery cost? Your probably just wasted $7 in gas

I am a pizza industry franchisee.
A certain amount goes to the driver. Some zee’s pay mileage, some pay a flat amount. Tax free to cover “gas, maint., etc) These days it comes out to around $2 per delivery, though it has been going up as it’s a tool to hire and retain drivers (which has been tough for years).
The rest goes to cover delivery driver insurance for the company. The company has to have insurance in case the driver’s personal insurance doesn’t cover in the event of an accident.
You are always one bad accident away from a multi million dollar lawsuit. The price of insurance has skyrocketed in recent years.

Why does anyone pay for delivery? It's not going to be at your house any faster than if you get it yourself.
Unless there's some crazy reason you just can't leave your house? Makes no sense to pay and tip someone else.

I drive a forklift, so delivery is better for me.

Then you definitely should be picking up your own pizza. Every dollar counts.
