A friend is trying to get a dog from the northeast to NOLA. Doesn’t want the dog flying in cargo. (Yeah, I know.).
Any good options?

I agree with your friend.

Cremate it then and bring the ashes in his carryon.

Depending on what your friend wants to spend, you could hire a courier to drive the dog.

Had my breeder set up transport of puppy via Flight Nannies.
It was $500 but puppy did ride in cabin of plane. I think these people are flight attendants that transport pets on their off time.

My brother is in the Air Force and had to ship his German Shepard from England to the States when he was relocated. Let’s just say it was not cheap.
Dog was crated and flown as cargo. She had to be flown to Houston because of customs.

they have pet rescue services that do nothing but transport animals around the country for small fee or even free in some cases. they take turns often just crossing one state then handing them off to another carrier to cross the next state until it gets where it needs to go.
we had a friends cats shipped from louisiana to kansas for free so she didnt have to put them in a pound. she found someone who would take all 3 and keep them as a family but we had to find a way to get them to her.
we made a few contacts with pet rescue outfits and when they had another pet relay set up, they let us know when and where to meat the courier.
call pet rescue and you can get the dog added to their list for pickup and transport. in most cases you will have to meet the courier on both ends to hand him off and someone to pick it up at a location near them

I just got a puppy from out of state. Some airlines (American?) and planes (regional jets?) have "puppy cabins" by the cockpit. Fully conditioned with special attendants, not cargo guys. They had contingencies in place for feeding, etc for flight delays, etc. Updated the entire time throughout the flight(s) and puppy was brought to the ticket counter for pick up- went very smoothly.

Drive to pick up dog. Drive back with dog.

Is said friend adopting? If so there are countless rescue transports that will run legs.
If said friend just wants a ride for his inbred pure breed he can fly a kite.

I've driven transports before for a rescue group. We each volunteered for an hour leg. Is the dog coming from a breeder or rescue group. Just fly and get it yourself.

Rescue dog groups send dogs from around here up north.
It's possible one could assist you in bringing a dog back from the North, because the van will probably be empty on return.

Just tell your friend to let it go like those pets on Homeward Bound. It will find its way.

I just looked into it. The ground transportation companies are very expensive and most have sketchy reviews and ridiculous things like “5 day pickup window”. If the dog is small enough to fly, there are flight nanny companies. I found a few people on fb who I would have used but my puppy was too big to fly (check dimensions). I ultimately rented a car and went and picked her up myself
