We always bash Jindal & JBE (rightfully so). I was wondering how she was.

What were the good things she did?

What were the bad things she did?

Any notable bills she signed or vetoed

She was a very good person who was a very bad governor.

I can’t think of anything offhand good that she did.

Bad- listened to the same old cast of characters to attempt to get things done

-Katrina. Complete & total meltdown- also see(Ray Nagin)

She was not the Gov. Her husband, Ray, told her what to do.

Katrina aside, which let's be honest, the multiples of blunders actually brought attention to what policy and response should look like for future storms.

But still...aside from Hurricane Katrina, she actually was a pretty decent Governor policy-wise.

Blanco was on board with the beginnings to claw back the Stelly Income Tax Increase.

LINK

She also joined then-Treasurer John Kennedy in being very outspoken about the crooked projects Bob Obdom and Don Hines tried to push through the State Bond Commission.

The Katrina response was bad, and some of her reactions made things much worse, especially for her image. However, IF (and it's a big if) Katrina doesn't happen, she likely tries to run for re-elections, and Republicans probably don't have much to go after her on record wise. She helped cut taxes and spoke out against two longtime Democrat weasels trying to garner pet projects for their personal gain.

As calculated as Bobby Jindal, and especially his advisors were, he probably doesn't try to run against an incumbent Blanco without that storm happening. He waits until 2007 when the field would be wide open again, with his main competition being Foster Campbell.

Walter Boasso probably end up carrying the GOP torch in a matchup vs. Blanco and loses.

I don't know much about her, or really remember anything impressive about her time in office. The majority of her term was dominated by Katrina and the aftermath. If that had not happened, she would probably would have been an average governor. Nothing special, but not a disaster either.

That puts her in the running for the greatest governor Louisiana has ever seen. Slightly preferable to inept and corrupt.

It’s amazing to think that both Blanco and Nagin were phoning it in, basically had their feet kicked up and enjoyed the perks of what they perceived to be a cushy job before retirement/advancing political career. Could not have had two more people that were way in over their head deal with a natural disaster crisis.

She looked and spoke kindly and governed ineffectively. She was not a leader in any sense of that word. But people liked her because people value decency and she seemed decent to most voters. To put a spin on the current vernacular, she had a very UN-punchable face.

Unfortunately with the likes of Edwin Edwards (who had to win a runoff vs David Freaking Duke) and the Longs, Gov. Blanco looked pretty damn good.

She won a close race to Jindal and a lot of people were already having buyer's remorse before Katrina. Katrina cemented her choice not to even run and his eventual landslide in the next election.

It's interesting to ponder what might have been different if he wins that first election. He was shitty at a lot, but was good in crisis situations. Katrina could have really put him on a different stage and path. I, of course, acknowledge another possible alternative there, but I can't see how he would have shite the bed worse than her.

While I do think he, and the folks he surrounded himself, were technicians evaluating every angle of everything much more than Blanco and her circle (Bob Freaking Mann), I think Jindal and his people also watched closely and learned. It's one of those moments in history where something goes so badly, successors make damn sure they've studied everything that happened and do everything in their power not to be caught in that same situation.

Perpetually paralyzed by indecision and having a total inability to read a room.

This is also backed up by what a neighbor of mine said in hindsight after her term as Governor, saying she was a total dumbass out of her depth back when she was sitting on some board (likely the Public Service Commission, which was her job pre-Lt Gov.

I will never forget in the debates against Jindal she said "we can't keep losing our children to other states like Houston".

Good people don't delay evacuation because like she did for Ivan because Ray Nagin had endorsed Jindal against her

You can't put Katrina aside.

And F.U. for forgetting about Rita.

Leaders earn their pay when the shite hits the fan.

She crumbled.

She was bad all the way around. Shaw may of gone under without the political wheeling and dealing of its head with her hubby. Katrina block grants saved Shaw

I remember in the late 90’a she debated someone on TV and I had to watch for high school class. The only thing I remember is she pulled out her freakin duck stamp and showed the camera. All politicians pander but that was about as pathetic as I’ve seen (reminds me of the hot sauce deal with Hillary). That’s when I knew Louisiana was in trouble.
