Marvel What IF?: EndGame - If another team goes for the Soul Stone, who is sacrificed?

Obviously, for narrative purposes, Clint and Natasha had to go retrieve the Soul Stone.
Although, they shouldn't have been blindsided by the requirement because Nebula understood how to get it when Gamorrah didn't come back, so she should have explained how and when to retrieve the stone during the briefing.
So say another of the teams was sent to retrieve it, who is sacrificed?
Teams are:
1) CA, Iron man, Ant man, and Hulk
2) Rhodey and Nebula
3) Thor and Rocket
Then again, maybe that's why it was Clint and Natasha sent for that stone. Maybe Nebula, who understood how to acquire it, purposefully withheld the info because she figured out that no other team was capable of getting the stone. And so she suggested that they go after that stone while she and Rhodey went for the Reality Stone.
I'm drunk and am watching Endgame, hence the topic.
Discuss amongst yourselves.

This is an interesting take. I interpret it more for plot reasons, because I didn't think Nebula was around Clint and Natasha long enough to realize their history with each other, and how much they cared for each other, unless she was told offscreen.

This is a little more believable to the audience as if they had decided this in the larger group, it would have been more coincidental, looking back on it. Still was coincidental as written, but less so since they were already grouped with just Nebula and Rhodey.
Of the options you list, the only possible one given the requirement to "sacrifice who you love" is #1 with Steve and Tony. They could have possibly written in a speech by Tony to Steve, and that could have been the end to his character's arc as well as additional closure between the two characters. But then we wouldn't have had the "I am Iron Man" moment.

None of those other teams would work

I think Natasha and Clint were the only team who could have retreived it because you have to sacrifice someone you love. None of those other teams you mentioned loved each other. Great friends, yes. Loved each other? I'm not sure.
Tony 100% sacrifices himself to let Pepper take the stone
Bruce tries to sacrifice himself to let Natasha take the stone
Vision sacrifices himself to let Wanda take it.
I'm spotting a sexist trend there.

Since vision is artificial, would this work? The saying is a soul for a soul, but if one is not truly living then would he be able to sacrifice himself for the stone?

With the heist group, you could make the argument that the only people that truly care for each other are Clint and Natasha and Bruce and Natasha. Possibly Steve and Natasha.
All of the rest of them are basically just people from work to them. Would have been funny to see Rocket go there and realize he doesn't like anyone, so he can't get the stone.

Well, Hulk wouldn’t die from that fall.
None of the other 3 are that close to AntMan so it wouldn’t be a sacrifice.
So it has to be either Tony or Cap out of this group.
With Cap being the obvious one because Tony needs to survive until the end.
quote:
Rhodey and Nebula
they met like an hour ago, so the sacrifice what you live thing doesn’t exist here.
quote:
Thor and Rocket
Thor survives that fall.
Him and Rocket have become friends, but i don’t think to the point of sacrificing that which love the most. Then again, he’s lost so much leading to this that maybe Rocket is up near the top now.

Try being the operative word here. Bruce can’t die.

Well that fall wouldnt even kill Thor or Hulk so not sure if they would even count.
1)CA
2)Rhodey
3)Rocket

3)Rocket

Nebula and Rhodey got the power stone. Thor and Rocket got the reality stone.

no you missed the whole point, to get it, you had to give up someone you loved dearly, the ultimate sacrifice.
keeping this in mind it would fall to the green girl and whats his name since they were in love
after that maybe rocket and the tree trunk, but that was the key, it had to be a sacrifice of someone you loved

Steve was close to Nat.
Bruce and Tony are close.
Steve and Tony are close.
Nat and Bruce are close.
James and Tony are best friends.
Nebula and Rocket are all close because all they have is each other.
Thor and Bruce are close.
Thor and Rocket are close.
Steve Tony and Thor share a special bond.
The Original Six certainly have a kinship.
In short, what you’ve said is incorrect.
Scott isn’t really close to any of them, but he certainly admires Steve.
