Why does this Zion situation feel like Greg Oden?

Zion certainly has more hype than Oden, but I remember by year three Oden had barely played. Really hoping Zion is able to heal up and avoid more injuries.

OK. Let's get this over with. I'll see your overused lazy Greg Oden comp and raise you with a counter overused lazy Joel Embiid comp.
Cool? Good talk.

Because this team has trained you to assume the worst through may years of failure and ineptitude. You have no actual information to tell you this about Zion, you're basing it solely on your experience with the team and assuming the worst.
If you want to assume the best
- Joel Embiid played just 31 games after 3 seasons.
- Someone that pays Zion more than the Pels do, Nike, has stepped in and is helping to insure he rehabs properly.
- Zion has a lot of money riding on next season. Basically be healthy and make All NBA and he'll get an extra $25-$30 million on his 2nd contract.

Yeah we bring up Oden because he was the last real example of a promising big that truly did wash out of the league because of injuries.
Most of the time that doesn't happen.
You have your guys with rough starts, short careers, lots of missed time, but Greg Oden's are rare, especially today where so much advancements in therapy, physical maintenance, and nutrition have advanced.

Greg Oden's career high is 24 points. Zion averaged more than that.

I agree, Zion’s ceiling is higher than both. Just seems to trending to a bad place.

You're filling the information void with your worst fears. It happens a lot here. Like I said, this team has made us this way.
Zion has a lot of monetary motivation to grow up and start acting like a professional. If he does he'll be everything we wanted him to be.
Also, I think a lot of people are really underestimating how big Nike getting involved is. They signed him to a 5/$75 deal and his next deal can be way more than that if he gets his shite together. This isn't "I don't like the Pels trainers so I'm going home to rehab and pout." This is "Michael Jordan told me to get my fat arse in the Nike pool so I could sell some shoes for him."

Dude ain’t selling merch just sitting on the sideline.

Was Joel a 350 pound fat slob?

Zion had a foot fracture. Greg Oden had a degenerative disorder in his knees and extremely limited cartilage. Other than being injured and high NBA picks, there is not much in the way of similarities.

You just ate some bad sushi last night. There's no real resemblance.

The Embiid example is a horrible comparison. Embiid was injured in college and was projected to miss his rookie year. Then the Sixers intentionally sat him twice to tank. They are nothing alike..

Feels like low key Ben Simmons

Wut
He broke the bone in 2014 and missed his rookie year
He then rebroke the same bone in his foot in 2015 and had to have another surgery, missed his 2nd season
Year 3, his “rookie year”, he tore his meniscus and played 31 games. Had to have surgery
The sixers sat him to tank .. like what

Joel Embiid was a #3 overall pick.
Oden and Zion were both #1 picks who have issues getting on the floor. The pick after them were Durant and Ja Morant, respectively, who have obviously outplayed the first overall pick of their years.
I’m not saying the sky is falling. I will say the comparison, to date, is an apt one. I’ll worry more if Zion hasn’t played more than a handful of games by next year.

Morant's only positive over Zion is health in that he has played more games. He certainly hasn't outplayed Zion when Zion has played, but again, he's played more than Zion. May be semantics mostly, but important to point out Zion when playing is clearly much better than Morant.

nope. another positive is that he improved something.
he started bad from 3 line.
2nd year meh.
3rd is ok.
his form may be a limiting factor.
his defense is better too.
at least he rachets it up with the game on the line.
