I had a bit of a bad experience with assured flooring out of BR ripping out tile and replacing in a new construction. Be 110% sure they have the materials needed before starting (which seems like a no brainer) and ensure they are prepared to repair shoe molding. They ripped out tile and were supposed to replace with the same, didn’t have the correct tile like they thought they did. Didn’t match grout line thickness on patched section by a lot… it was noticeable and tried to say “your eyes will adjust at about 6 months and you won’t notice it anymore” . Also, never showed up on time. I am usually ok with some flexibility but I work nights and was assured they would be there at 9 am ..3 o clock rolled around on more than one occasion before they arrived. I may have been a rare bad experience but it was a rough go. Wouldn’t recommend.

You should definitely get another quote, regardless of whether that one feels off base. But yes, that does seem very high. I’d expect $3-5/ft2 for demo and install. And $5 is wayyyy on the high side.

Couple bucks to remove and install doesn’t seem outrageous. Especially if it’s a small job.

I posted an update on another post, but I'll write a more detailed one here.

So the floors look excellent. Damage to baseboards is minimal and requires just some slight touch-up painting and reinstalling of the quarter-round molding (which is to be expected).

However, we had this work done while we were out of town and there was dust everywhere in our house when we returned. Literally every single surface has to be cleaned including bedrooms that were nowhere near the demo site, objects inside drawers, all dishes in our cabinets, food items, etc. Just about the only things that were untouched by dust were some linen closets and some drawers in our bathroom a few doors removed from the demo. This is even after we closed doors and hung tarps as they recommended.

I took pictures and talked to the customer service team. They agreed that the debris left behind was not what should typically be expected. Sounds like the guys who did the demo possibly took advantage of the fact that we were out of town and weren't as careful as they normally are. We paid 60% downpayment upfront and I told them I didn't want to pay any more for the hassle which they agreed to.

So the question is: would I recommend them? I'm honestly not sure. If you go with them, ask them upfront what all is to be expected of cleanup afterward, and ask them to be specific about dust in other rooms. I'm very curious how things are normally supposed to go.

So yes the house was an absolute mess, but the extra $$ we saved definitely eases things in my mind.

Definitely look into getting some sort of air scrubber or leave a fan in a window to blow dust outside. I feel like that would definitely help things out.

I have a quote I’m looking at now (BR area), includes haul off and disposal

Remove Ceramic Tile - $ 2.50/ft2 (722 sq ft)
Remove Hardwood Flooring (glue down) - $2.75/ft2 (500 ft2)
Install LVT flooring (floating) - $1.75/ft2 (1600 sq ft)

Those prices are very fair. Maybe even a tad low.

I have pulled up three tile floors using this Harbor Freight power hammer with a 2" chisel bit. This tool easily pops the tile up then it chips up the thin set to leave a smooth floor. You can get a wider chisel bit as well. Its still a dusty job but much less so than using a surface grinder.

I just got my first estimate (very similar project as yours). He was charging $1.50 install LVT and $3.50 demo wood and tile.

After looking at your quote, ill definitely be getting another quote. Again, really glad you made this thread

Are you happy with the vinyl? I was set on porcelain but people really seem to like the vinyl

ETA thought I was replying to OP. Crawdude your quote looks more affordable than mine. Who did you go with in BR if you dont mind?

Let me get back with you on that info - walking out the house now - I’ll update this post in a couple hours or so.

ETA: I’m working with an interior designer/organizer to update the house interior. She recommended the person/company whose name/company I’m going to provide you. The designer said her clients, and herself, have been happy with his work for those that chose to hire him for floor installation work.

Husband and wife team, Jason and April.

It’s a shite ton of work. Up here just about everything is on a crawl space. If we have easy access to demo area from the crawl we just remove subfloor and replace.

Bumping this for any updates on LVT install price. Was shocked my contractor came up over $3.75/ft and I did all the demo. $50/bag to install floor leveling and I supply all materials. Shoe molding also extra $1k.

He’s been fair with me on some things and others like this one are way high. Hate to tell him I’m passing on some of his work, but Acadian Flooring quoted $2.15/ft and they are pricey.

Single story house quote for exterior painting (brick exterior that can’t be matched to old brick) was nearly $13k. I buy materials. Inside was $9k, but didn’t think too much on that because he will be responsible for entire finished product including new Sheetrock

I took up glued engineer floors after Ida ruined them. I NEVER want to do that again. Paying to have that done if ever in that situation again.
