As well they should since they are not pro athletes.

One way contracts that bind the employer (university) but not the athlete, unrestricted free agency, no salary cap.

Actually it is a two way contract. Scholarships are yearly and a university can not renew it if they choose.

Boom. Maybe it's time to have college athletes sign contracts saying they will stay at the school that signs them foe X amount of years. I mean if they want "pro" money than they should abide by "pro" agreements.

Come on over to the college baseball side. We still love it here.

I can at least understand people being dismayed with the transferring. Screeching about NIL is silly as frick

But this NIL crap is the end of college football as we all know it. And it ain't good. Honestly, it ain't good for the athletes, either. It further ingrains the entitlement mentality that these kids are raised in, and coddled with, from middle school.

I don't understand this. A company wants to pay a kid because he's a skilled player. How is getting what is basically a sponsorship for playing well contributing to entitlement? I'd want to get something for doing something well, too. That ain't entitlement.

eta: you're the one being an entitled prick. you don't think these kids should be able to make money off of their name because you don't want them to leave for a better offer and your team might lose. it boils down to you don't want them to get paid because you think it will negatively impact something you watch on tv.

Imagine if the NIL wasn’t a thing and seeing A&M with the historical #1 recruiting class year after going 8&4fit. Then Lsu goes out and spends 10s of millions for the most winningest coach of all time and still loses the best players already on the team plus great players previously committed. We’re not selling the “LSU brand” anymore. It’s now become all about $$$$. No more pride for most of these kids. Some on here are still annoyed when players leave early instead of “staying to make their draft stock go up”.

well said sir...

I used to love NFL (I interned at NFL Films in college I loved the old John Facenda super bowl moves so much) and will watch the NFL Playoffs only (maybe)

MLB as well now will never or rarely watch if ever on principal...

sports used to be about the greatness and strength of the athlete overcoming odds to reach the pinnacle... Ernie Banks's "Let's Play 2 Today" is dead with the elite athlete and it's a combination of our culture and social media and the Jerry Maguire-ing of sports and top athletes from a young age.

As I have pointed out before there is something to be said about kids and teenagers not just being shorter adults.. there is growth and development to be had that will make them whole people and great parents some day... that seems to be all out the window if they can run super fast or jump high or whatever... and at the end of the day... I feel even if the kid has made it (and that is a big if)... all the money in the world won't make them whole once football or whatever is gone... as I tell my kids all the time as they are budding athletes - the real champion is the one who is happily married at age 40.. has great kids and is strong in their faith.... but I guess that makes me Clint Eastwood from Gran Torino.

I am with you buddy... very sad... and not sure what is going to stop it.. pretty soon PGA Golf will all we have left...

If you’re adjusting your level of fandom based on anything involving the Texas Bowl then don’t even try to convince me you’re some big fan of LSU.

Are you shitting me with this? You really zeroed in on that whole post to make this idiotic comment? Look deeper dumbass at the message and not nit pick for the bull shite that is a “QUITTING GENERATION OF GETTING MINES”. Wait. Are you one of them?

I bet you think weed is ok as well. Just fricking dumb.

Your comment DIRECTLY reflects what is exactly wrong with this generation.

This needs to be sent to the NCAA every time it crosses your mind. It has ruined the sport for kids. Adapt? Real love for kids is standing between the instructions doing them the most harm of them developing into entitled men.

But college football....that is my sweet spot. The passion, the rivalries, the playing of a sport for the sheer joy and pride of the school you represent.
It's all gone. And it ain't ever returning....I cannot be alone in my feelings.
you're not alone, I feel EXACTLY the same.

I'm 58 years old, and for many decades I woke up on Saturdays with a ton of excitement for the upcoming games. There was electricity in the air and I could feel adrenaline pumping. Saturdays in the fall were very special days, not just for LSU football, but for other games as well around the country.

I felt NONE of that this year. Not just because LSU was terrible, but because the college game has changed much for the worse. With the portal, transfers not having to sit a year, and now NIL, the college game I loved is gone.

It's now like a pro league, with free agency and buying players.

I'm very sad.
