Why can't we hit the uncommitted recruits still out there?

There are top 100 uncommitted out there heck even top 300.

Even de-commit's? Do we not have a shot or something?

Partially because we need upperclassmen starters who can make an immediate impact and partially because transfer portal guys have been recruited for a month and high school kids have been recruited for 3-4 years. Kelly only has so much time to make up ground and we need immediate help anyway

Did he say he wouldn't recruit uncommitted players?

I wish it was an all of the above approach. There was 4-5, defensive players from LA ranked 400-650 that didn't receive offers before signing day. Even if 0 would have signed, if your touting recruit our base, and LA grown and all that, at least pretend like your going after the kids.

But we offer a safety from bama with hardly any offers ranked like 950.

Frustrating that it does feel like a transfer only approach besides maybe 3 in state kids. I get the immediate playing time and we need it, but those 4-6, kids are at west Monroe, Karr, big in state programs and could have helped build foundation for relationships there.

Because I assume he doesn't want to start off his LSU tenure with recruiting violations. The calendar is in a "dead period" right now

you need to swing your mindset from recruiting to free agency. proven position players at the college level vs unknowns in HS.

He wants players that can come in and contribute right away and to build depth. The roster is a shite show right now

It's extremely late in the game to get involved with uncommitted recruits for this year's class.

He didnt say we werent recruiting high school kids any more, but to build a roster for next season it's obvious we need to hit the portal hard. We just had under 40 scholarship players play in the bowl game and a number of those guys wont even be back next year (Kirklin, Deculus, Shanahan, Ingram, Harris [thank god], etc).

We have to get probably nothing short of dozen or so transfers in key spots just to be able to compete next year otherwise the team will be ridiculously young.

Because you have such a roster deficiency that you need veterans that can play now.

I think you are going to see larger schools take less high school athletes and more transfers. The top guys will still go to the big schools but the next tier guys will go to smaller schools then the power 5 will cherry pick the freshmen/sophomores that did well at that level.

People are worried about college football being a minor league for the NFL but if this trend continues the group of 5 and lower will literally become the farm system for the power 5.

He mentioned in his interview that he still wants his classes to be primarily HS recruits. He also knows how poor our roster make up is right now and the fastest way to patch the holes is through the portal with college ready players.

Do you realize those are two different things and one doesn’t affect the other.

We need people that can provide production which most HS recruits can’t do immediately. We will need to fill the roster with transfers for the next 3 seasons due to the roster mismanagement over the last 2 years.

The key; Louisiana like he said.

More Louisiana kids, less likely they transfer based on my findings

Because when they come in next year they’ll be freshmen and then Sophmore the next year.

You wanna win some games before 2024?

Because they aren’t all positions of need. I’d prefer grabbing players out the portal that may have better tape than blindly taking a kid from high school.
