Little brother has a job offer from them as pipefitter or boilermaker. Friend of his got him the job but they aren't being clear on the pay. Just says "it varies from plant to plant"
Any of you guys have experience with them?
He's got a comfortable maintenance job but wants to make more money.

Enough to take a sick vacation to Destin if you work 400 hours of overtime.

This is true. If he can jump around and hit turnarounds I think they would pay $32-36 an hour and depending on the situation, double for overtime.
I’ve been out of the loop for a few years, but that is what I recall.

Idk if SWS is still a DT company but it should be around 38-41/hr. For fitters/welders.
33-35 for boilermakers.

Does he have any certifications? Is he going to be hired on as a “hand”? There’s a pretty big spread in skills between a boilermaker and a pipefitter, if it’s either/or, they should give him an hourly wage for each for the job he’s about to go on. Yes, when he moves to the next turnaround or plant, that number could change.

big difference in pay usually between PF & Boilermaker and it very much depends on the plant he is going. usually anywhere from 32-40+

A better way would be to say it varies job to job. When I used to work for a large industrial contractor, on the project management side, when I got sent to different jobs at different facilities, my pay would go up for that job.
Now in estimating, rates can vary when I bid jobs. They may stay similar overall depending on market dictates, but they can move around a bit.

So, he's going to quit steady money to go chase turnarounds just to be the first guy laid off?

If they won’t give him his pay range, then they won’t give him a minimum 40 hours either.
The rates are set yearly or longer, so they know exactly how much per plant fyi. Just depends how they classify him to the owner.

He won’t get double time as a boilermaker. About 35/hr.
If he’s a real pipefitter, 38-40 and maybe double time.

The company I work for, the welders and fitters get the same pay. But it’s a specialty company so I’m not saying it’s the standard. I’m assuming SWS is still a doubletime company and pays like the ones I work for.
We do not use “b-class” or helpers so it’s a flat rate. Riggers get 38. BM get 35.
