Has NFL kicking gotten exponentially worse since moving the PAT?

I don't recall kickers missing FGs at the rate they do now.

Anyone else notice this?

I can’t remember kickers being as awful as they are now.

It was an awful rule change that was short sighted.

I swear they have done something to the kicking ball. And yes it has gotten worse

Kickers have been this bad or worse for a majority of the leagues history. There was a 20 year or so run from the late 90s to the early 2010s where the numbers were far above any time before or after. We’re just hitting back to the mean

They're in line with what they've been recently, which is better than any other time in NFL history.

It feels like just two years ago people were complaining that kickers never missed inside of 40 anymore.

Nah, kickers the past few seasons are better than in that time period.

From the perspective of the people who changed the rule, making FGs harder to make is just a bonus. The whole point was to make PATs harder and more competitive because too many were being made.

I don't like it as I don't want to make kickers, especially extra points, matter even more than they did before.

So lets leave the game which is a game of inches in the NFL in the hands of a kicker. Yeah very well thought out.

Back in the day you had lineman and rb's kicking the PAT/punts/FG's as the roster was 35 guys. No specialists like today.

Does anyone that’s replied to this thread know WHY they changed the rules?

They moved it back because kickers perfected the PAT. Why have such a short FG if they’re just going to make every one of them? They moved it back to make it more difficult for kickers.

I love they moved it back.

Either keep it the way it is or just get rid of the extra point kick. It’s pointless to waste time having kickers go out and kick a FG from the 2 yard line which they make 99% of the time.

Im in the same camp. The PAT was so automatic, the play was given up on. It was a play that was meaningless. Now, truely every play is meaningful and you dont see D-Line just stand up after the snap.

Even if it has gotten worse (it hasn't), it's not "exponentially" worse. This thread is a perfect example of how stupid the masses are. A bunch of idiots posting their "feelings" about facts - and one or two actually informed people calmly stating the truth.

They’re pros, they probably shouldn’t

What I’m not getting is how PATs being moved back have made the short FG percentage worse
