It's only alarming if you only take it at face value. And even then "alarming" is a bit of an overstatement.

Look deeper and you'll see it's a unique situation that rarely ever happens..

Any idea why Notre Dame, also getting a new head coach did not take the hit we did?

Why did we hold onto most of our 2017 class after O took over? Same reason. What did that say about O? Not that much beyond the fact that he and the holdovers had the relationships and were able to hold on.

This is really poor attempt to troll. Do better, frickface.

Didn't the strength coach and special teams coach come with him?

59 up votes on your response, do people even follow LSU football?

I wasn't being literal.

But their situation is unique and guys like Rees played there so it would be hard to leave.

Maybe Kelly had already locked in a good class before he left. He hasn't been gone very long.

This was not an attempt to troll, if it were, I can do much better. As you can see from the diverse answers, there are many legitimate reasons why this happened. Don't be so defensive about LSU football, we now have one the the best coaches in the country - you can look at things objectively now.

Kids choose Notre Dame for the school not the coach.

I wish I could downvote you twice.

-Didn’t lose their coach mid season
-Had a coach in waiting that the players love
-Kelly recruits to a program; not a coach.
-You suck

So, Burt..... You made a great case to how great CBK really is....He won a shite ton of games with apparently poor recruits (from what your words are saying).....
He wins games. Period. And has recruited great classes long before Freeman was on their staff.
So, thank you, Burt, for proving the point of how great our hire of CBK actually is. Brian Kelly is more responsible for the class signed by Notre Dame today than anyone else.

They always have classes that are overrated because Notre Dame fans pay for recruiting ranking service websites/magazines.

Big difference between a coaching staff that was fired and a coaching staff that was retained.

In the case of a coaching staff being fired, long-standing relationship between coach and player disappear.

Said long-standing relationships when a staff is retained are still there.

LSU, UF, Miami, Washington and USC fired coaches and had mediocre to bad early signing days.

Oklahomo, Oregon and Notre Dame had better early signing day because some of the staffs were retained.

Although Oklahomo's class was gutted by the departure of Riley; it would have been so much better if he had stayed (top 5 easily).

Call it an itchy trigger finger. Maybe you haven’t been watching all the hair on fire crazies running around here and the Coaching Changes board melting and shitting themselves over every rumor and report. It’s way past old, but it’s also a lot of fun to just laugh at.

I don’t consider my extreme lack of patience with the idiots around here a lack of objectivity. I prefer to see real results and go off them, rather than base what I think on guesses and rumors.

As for your question, you got pretty much the same answer from me and several others. That should tell you that the answer was pretty obvious.

That Kelly hasn’t named an OC or a DC despite seemingly plenty of time to do so

I guess both could be coaching in the playoff, but that seems unlikely.

This answer is so obvious I can’t believe this thread was made.
