Ciris power/intelligence/sword skills: My biggest issue here is again not laying proper groundwork. It’s a theme lol. How is she supposed to beat someone like Bonhart? They either will water him down or Mary Sue the shite out of Ciri

I thought The training scenes were excessively long and they showed she was an incredible quick learner.

Like how much more groundwork did they need to do in season 2

I mean I’d ditch and rewrite the whole thing. Nix the entire stupid Yennefer/Cahir B plot as well as most of the Nilfgaard stuff. Replace that with Geralt, Lambert, Eskel, Coen, and Vesimir each spending time alone with ciri teach her something unique in combat or Witcher preparations or monster knowledge to show off her intellectual prowess. Have her actually fight something. Anything. The shows a mess in this regard. Ciri is supposed to be able to put every thing she learns together culminating in her eventual fight with Bonhart. A man that fairly easily kills Cahir. A man we’ve already seen beat the shite out of Vilgefortz who is the single most powerful person in this whole thing. It’s power scaling and balance is off.

I can’t continue to read this thread with all the book/game folks bitching about every little change, especially now that I know future spoilers eventually show up in this thread. Time to look for or create a Non-Readers Thread.

Nilfgaard is portrayed as religious zealots for some reason. It’s dumb and they dial it back in s2

At least they changed the armor from that baggy looking shite in season 1

Yeah, how did this thread go from a middle ground thread to a full on book/spoiler thread? I'm out too if this thread is going to have book spoilers.

I’m a big Witcher fan. Read all the books. They took a dump on this great masterpiece.

I gotta Be honest, a season of Ciri training sound less interesting.

If she shows up season 2 and it’s a few months on the road with Gerald and Yen and she can fight and use some magic I’m willing to accept that without seeing it happen.

This is the sensible position. If you want every detail spelled out for you, read the books. If you want the overarching story, watch the show.

These people are complaining she won't be prepared for a fight that is 4 seasons away.

I’m not saying that can’t pull it off. Just that it’s worrying. It’s the concept of set up and pay off. There’s a reason blood of elves sets up a lot of what is to come. I think they’d have been better served accepting this season as slow and received as boring instead of a half baked attempt at a political drama and action monster hunter.

Id agree with that as well...so have a time jump...like the books did. It would have made her looking so much older make more sense. In episode 2 Triss shows up after Ciri has been training for a long time so you dont have to spend time on excessive training scenes.

I assumed there was a slight time jump between each of her training scenes. Hitting the dummy wit geralt then losing to the gaunlet on the first step, then later the second step, then later the very end seemed to be a montage meant to show she was slowly improving. Did others assumed that all happened in 2 days?

I think they intended to show a time jump but were so scared about the backlash from s1 time jumps they did a weak job of it at best and if you didn’t expect it from the books it could be easily missed. I also think the obstacle course they centered her training around was an attempt to recreate what you see her doing in the Witcher 3 tutorial dream sequence. The problem is the Witcher 3 established Ciri and who she is and how she fights like a Witcher spinning and shite in a 3 minute dream tutorial better than however long the show spends on it. This whole season sort of displays a lack of confidence on the part of the people in charge imo. There’s two ways I look at this and 1 makes me feel like a hypocritical a-hole. 1) they clearly listened to the fans and response from season 1 and attempted to address it here with fan service and nostalgia Easter eggs and visuals from Witcher 3 2) that backlash imo gave them a lack of confidence in the book they were adapting and led to a more mainstream normie product, for lack of a better word, that GoT comparatively started producing in season 5 although for other reasons.

Man, I was ok with everything for the most part besides a few things already mentioned (Rience teleporting into Kaer Moren, Geralt using Ciri as bait).

But Jesus, that last episode was terrible. That was the show runners top secret episode? No wonder because it completely punted the entire origin story. I had hoped Cavill had more stroke to be like "nah this isn't it." No wonder he's basically apologizing in interviews and talking about season 3 being true to the books again.

That’s funny. Considering he’s a massive fan of the books, he might feel like the rest of the book readers here do

I’ve had it on as background noise today while I get some work done. Freya Allen isn’t getting enough recognition anywhere imo. She improved a lot from season 1 and is an excellent Ciri.

Just finished season 2. Season 1 was great, but Season 2 was nothing more than background noise outside of the first episode. Pumped to see more of the Wild Hunt though. I felt like I wasn't even watching the same show most of the time.
