I’m sure these kids are gonna have an awesome swag bag. Some shirts and hoodies that say “bowl game” should suffice.

This. Or don’t count FCS & lower tier wins as wins.

Let's not go back to the bad old days when a 6-5 Mississippi State didn't get invited to the Bluebonnet Bowl.

Hey, I watched the Bluebonnet Bowl in the 80's. I think I've watched every bowl I possibly could for the last 40-some years. Love even the baddest bowl games.

Why do you want less football on TV?

Agreed completely. I’ve never understood this line of thinking.

If someone thinks it is a boring game and has no interest in watching, there is a really easy way to address that issue.

Calm down gramps.

Let the kids have an extra game, get all the cool shite that comes with it, etc...

With the playoff and bowl format, a lot of the smaller schools will/can never compete to be in the bigger games.

Yeah, more football is a good thing. If you don't like it, don't watch.

I've never understood people like this who bemoan the number of bowl games.

It literally has zero effect on you as you can simply just not watch it.

More football is good and bowls have NEVER EVER been about rewarding the best teams which has been proven here repeatedly so I'm not sure why you guys have to keep trotting out that BS line thought.

Yeah. In 2007 South Carolina and Bama were both 6-6. Bama got the SEC bowl and we didn’t go. After that I think the SEC tried to make sure it had more affiliations.

Crazy that 6 wins is no longer “eligible” it’s a guarantee.

It’s exhibition football that’s usually fun. It gives players extra practice to develop for the next season. Let every team go to a bowl game, I don’t care.

DBG,

I’m fine with this logic but don’t brag to me about winning a bowl game or shite on players for sitting out bowl games.

Easy to say as an Alabama fan.

They should be a reward for a good season,

Who’s the arbiter of what determines a “good season?” You? frick you. 6 wins is a great season for some teams with their resources.

not a participation trophy

Why? There is something to be said for showing up in anything in life, but do you know how brutal being a college football player can be? Waking up at 5 to lift weights. It’s a full-time, hard labor job that requires way more than the “20 hours” they’re allowed. Those “optional” hours aren’t very optional. And they’ve got to find time somewhere to go to class and study. And there’s really only about 10 teams out of 130 that have a realistic chance at winning the National Championship. Yet the dudes on the other 120 teams still show up and bust their asses.

Granted, there are a lot of perks that come with being a college football player. It’s certainly not a miserable existence. But it is hard, and there’s something noble about showing up. I have absolutely no problem rewarding the guys who showed up, put the work in, and didn’t quit having a final few days together enjoying the perks of whatever bowl they go to. That team will literally never play together again, probably won’t ever all be together again.

That crowd is right. Nobody is making you watch. I don’t watch most of them myself. Im in the damn strong “you’re a spoiled fricking, cock-sucking a-hole crowd,” though. Have a great day!

It's probably Austin. They tried to get an Austin Bowl a few years ago
From Wikipedia:
In May 2015, the NCAA certified the Austin area for a bowl game. But bowl organizers indicated that due to the lack of time, the preparation for the game would not be sufficient. It was then decided that organizers would resubmit their application to host the game for the 2016 Bowl season. [1][2][3] On April 11, 2016, the NCAA announced a freeze on new bowl games until after the 2019 season.[4]

I mean, more football is good.

It’s not like each bowl is created equal. The two teams playing in this made up game know what’s up.

99% of every bowl ever played was completely meaningless and since teams have 3 weeks to a month off many of them were very boring and sloppy games.

Why pretend this is a new thing?
