Someone turned $22k into $10M in a day…
Splunk was trading at ~$120, they bought $127 call options that expire tomorrow.
Cisco announced the acquisition and now it’s trading at $145; quick 45,650% return in a day.
A real dumb play if it is insider trading.

Want to see a crazy trade?
Yesterday, someone OPENED $SPLK 127 calls, for $22,000, expiring tomorrow.
Then today Cisco Systems $CSCO announced acquiring Splunk for $28B, $SPLK up 20%.
The contracts were $0.04 yesterday, now $18.30.
They exited today for a 45,650% return...

The number one way the SEC finds insider trading violations is by looking at short-dated, OTM calls that don't fit a trader's prior trading patterns.

This is how politicians build their wealth into 10s of millions with a 200k salary.
Wild.
Wild.

A real smart play if you're a member of Congress.

If could also be luck...too obvious for insider trading.

I hear about these, then nothing . I’d love for someone to keep up with this one . When you don’t hear anything , I think they got away with it

$22k on 1DTEs? Unlikely

I work for Cisco and no one saw this one coming. Normally there are plenty of rumors, but not this time. We should have bought them years ago for a lot better price.

Someone is about to have the SEC give them a proctology exam.

quote:I’ve always wondered this . Like, if I walked by a copy machine at the office and accidentally saw the press release, made a huge trade and won, there would be no hard evidence of insider trading. Could I claim “luck”?

No. You had access to MNPI and traded on it.

Magnitude is bullshite because OI was only 420 so even if one person held all those contracts it would have only cost $1,680 and returned a gain of $800K. Still a crazy profit but who knows if one person held all those calls.

He could be really unlucky.
I was sitting next to someone who worked for the SEC on a flight. Got excited because I thought he worked for the other SEC, but I asked what was his wildest story.
Told me a guy made 8 figures on a call options that expired in under a week. Said the guy made 12 "pie in the sky trades" over a two week period. It was one of two that hit, and he didn't have any inside information, he was just really unlucky.
He was unlucky because he was inside trading on the other smaller trade that hit. And that was the only reason he was caught.

No. You had access to MNPI and traded on it.

I know through proxy someone who did an insider trade, made like 30,000. Got hit. Took a plea and is basically bankrupt but no jail time.
Seems like they go after the smaller people because they are easier cases. Not fair. Ain't no way this stuff wasn't insider.
