I'm looking to move my money away from Chase and go with a local bank. Any recommendations on who to go with or who to avoid for general family banking?
Gulf Coast
Hancock Whitney
Jefferson Financial
Regions
Etc?

Regions isn’t local
Jeff Financial is a joke
We’ve been at GCBT for a while. Nice people.
Hancock kind of lost a lot of its local sense with the Whitney merger. Our Whitney folks were transitioned out.

Home Bank is pretty good. Nice people.
Hancock Whitney is more of a deposit outflow at this point, with New Orleans area deposits funding loans in other areas. Red River Bank is the reverse. They are trying to move into the market and are investing outside deposits into the New Orleans area.

I saw that MC Bank opened up a branch in Lakeview.
They are a pretty small bank with offices mainly in St. Mary Parish. They even have branches in Covington, Youngsville, and Lafayette.
I guess since the St. Mary Parish market is drying up, they are expanding to other areas to increase customers and deposits as oilfield and old money leave St. Mary Parish.
I was pretty surprised seeing a bank that had just 4 or 5 branches around Morgan City a few years ago now have a visible loan production office in Metairie off of I-10 and now branches in Lakeview and Covington. They also have an office in Houma with limited services.

For stability consider Metairie Bank.

I’d recommend Keesler Federal Credit Union… there’s one on vets and one in mid-city… credit unions have reciprocity and you can use other credit unions around the country if needed to deposit/withdraw too.. Banks are garbage, credit unions are non-profit and serve their members..

I’ve heard good things about Metaire Bank.

I've used Metairie Bank for over 20 years and they have been great.

Another vote for Keesler Federal Credit Union and Red River.

I'll look into those. Anyone have experience with Jefferson Financial?

Resource Bank is by far the best local one

Laugh all you want, but my damn campus federal account from way back to my freshman year in the 90s at LSU has served me well.
I was no shite stuck in the Middle East, screwy shite happened, CFCU cut me an immediate line of credit and got me the hell out of there. A phone call and a person at the LSU main branch, and I was out of a shitty spot.

When you say local, what do you mean? Chartered out of NOLA? A community bank? Both?
The best two pure community bank options that fit this bill are Metairie Bank and Fidelity Bank. I know Fidelity Bank’s CEO the best and really like him / them.
Gulf Coast is a huge, publicly traded bank.
Credit unions don’t pay taxes. So unless you’re a union loving, SJW democrat…stay away.
Hancock bought out / saved Whitney cause they screwed it up leveraging depositors money with a series of really dumb moves. They’re chartered out of Miss. and are a huge multi billion dollar publicly traded bank.

Red River Bank. Best in the state and headquartered in Alex.
Just expanded into Nola with one branch downtown on Baronne and building one in Metairie on Vets

They’re out of Alexandria & are absolutely run as if Elec was the center of the universe.
Not sure, but I think the OP was looking for a bank based out of NOLA.
