There is an easy way to not end up taking a beating in this situation.

I find it funny that the article is attempting to place the blame of the situation on the people were being stolen from.

And probably right after each beating.

Now I get where it's kind of fricked up to bait someone....but frick a thief, they got what they deserved and would not have gotten beat if they wouldn't be a thief. Further, if they live where thieves are so common that you can bait them on the regular basis....then like others have said, not all heros where capes. Should be legal to beat a thief even with the use of bait.
