Didn’t realize Gasden was so bad. Granted I’ve only passed through a handful of times and it’s been about 10 years, but it seemed okay.

Compton, CA has come a long way from the 80's and 90's. They no longer even rank.

Paragould, Ar? That town is 86% white and pretty nice I highly doubt it’s a dangerous city.

And lol at no Jackson, Ms on there

Compton went from 60% Black to 60% Hispanic now. Still poor but not as dangerous.

What is sad is that Bessemer actually is nestled between a couple of small mountain ridges and otherwise would be a quaint town.

There isn't an area of Monroe I haven't metal detected in. Never had any problem. Of course, I don't deal with drugs, so I shouldn't be bothered.

Tacoma being on that list is a damn self-inflicted travesty. It was a violent shithole for years from the 70-90's and accomplished a major turnaround by 2012. I guess a lot of people forgot or weren't even alive to remember how dangerous it used to be and sat back and watched or actively supported policies to send it right back down the shitter again starting around 2018. And then COVID hit and everything went completely off the rails.

Pisses me off because Tacoma is an older city (by west coast standards ), with a lot of beautiful architecture and interesting eclectic neighborhoods. It's located right on Puget Sound with a major port. Mt. Rainier visible in one direction and the Olympic Range visible in another. One of the positives that most people will still attribute to Seattle is that it's situated in a beautiful spot. Tacoma shits on Seattle in that regard:

But, against all odds, and despite all those gifts, the people are determined to frick it up.

I’m in Southside only 10 mins sw of Gadsden. It has gotten worse since the Goodyear plant shut down but it has been a crappy town since I moved here 20 years ago. I have tried to get my wife to move away for 10 years but she was raised just north of Gadsden and she doesn’t want to move. Nearly every time I have her talked into it one of her sisters gets pregnant and she just can’t leave her new niece or nephew.

I grew up in South Georgia out in the woods and I hate that my boys have to grow up here. I think we will top the list soon enough.

It’s per 1000 people for violent crime for all cities 25,000 or more which isn’t really how most comparisons are done. I think 100,000 and up are usually separated out into their own comparison which shows how bad BR & NO are to be in a per capita comparison with much smaller towns (same with other larger cities included).

Bessemer has a prison which likely pushed it above the 25,000 floor to be eligible and take the title for whatever year it covers. Probably fitting.

Edit: based on Wikipedia using this for Bessemer numbers are pre - summer of love.
