The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said it is still searching for a missing 13-year-old boy, James Yoblonski, over a month after he went missing near Devil’s Lake State Park.
Last month local law enforcement searched wooded areas along U.S. 12 near Devil's Lake State Park. The searches revealed several makeshift campsites and some clothing believed to belong to Yoblonski. The Wisconsin State Journal reported officials believe Yoblonski is trying to live off the grid as a survivalist.
When the boy initially went missing about a month ago, the family told police that a gun from the home had gone missing at the same time. In a release Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office said “there are several investigators assigned to the case that are actively working on tips/leads, interviews, and analyzing electronic information.”
I hope he is still alive and they find him but why would he want to live off the grid in this heat?

It is Wisconsin. Heat shouldn’t be a problem

Who else read this book when they were a kid?

My Side of the Mountain is a middle-grade adventure novel written and illustrated by American writer Jean Craighead George published by E. P. Dutton in 1959.[1] It features a boy who learns courage, independence, and the need for companionship while attempting to live in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. In 1960, it was one of three Newbery Medal Honor Books (runners-up)[2] and in 1969 it was loosely adapted as a film of the same name. George continued the story in print, decades later.
Sam Gribley is a 12-year-old boy who intensely dislikes living in his parents' cramped New York City apartment with his eight brothers and sisters. He decides to run away to his great-grandfather's abandoned farm in the Catskill Mountains to live in the wilderness. The novel begins in the middle of Sam's story, with Sam huddled in his treehouse home in the forest during a severe blizzard. Frightful, Sam's pet peregrine falcon, and The Baron, a weasel, share the home with him. In a flashback, Sam reminisces about how he came to be there.

Kid heard, "be the change you want to see in the world" and took it to heart.

i mean as a dad, i would want my kid back but at same time....i respect the shite out of a kid that can live a month out in the woods all by himself at 13.

reminds me of a book i read as a kid. I think it was called My Side of the Mountain. A kid ran away and survived in the woods for a winter. I remember my mom not wanting me to read it because the kid in the book was disobedient.

In a few months we’ll all be off the grid and this kid will be a king.

He will show up at the front door in October. Playing Huck Finn ends when the first cold front rolls through.

never got around to that one but i wanted to recreate Hatchet badly

The themes in Hatchet include survival, spiritual health, self-reliance, gratitude, and nature. Brian's experience with nature and the wilderness proves therapeutic for him and it helps to strengthen his mental and spiritual health, which is further cultivated by spending time with the animals in the woods.

Really? It's Wisconsin, not Arizona.

So if they found campsites and clothes, why the hell haven't they brought in a tracking dog? It wouldn't take half a day to find the kid if they really wanted to.

Smart kid, ahead of his time.

'Cause he's smart enough not to try living off the grid in the winter in Wisconsin.
