Has the rip current situation from Gulf Shores - Destin improved any?

Heading there Sat - Wed. I've been checking the NWS Mobile/Pensacola weather site and it keeps saying the risk is low through Sunday.
Anyone on the beach this week that can tell us what is going on?

Panama City Beach is now the deadliest beach in the US this year.

Just look at the flags brah. Double red means water ready to swim

You want a forecast - check the Windfinder app. High waves, big rip current

Currently looks like a lake at Gulf Shores. Wear some arm floaties

Yellow flag Saturday then 3 good days. Because things change quickly they only forecast 4 or 5 days out. But it appears conditions are getting better.

Short of actually seeing the flags, that's where you're going to get the most accurate information.

Perdido has been yellow flags and just fine all week.

Follow the fatties. There are tons of them at the Redneck Riviera.

They're flotation devices.

Is it an improvement that Mallet didn't die in a rip current but drowned, nonetheless?

The winds have died down and therefore the waves and therefore the riptides, that's correct.
Riptides are from the excessive amount of water pushed in from larger waves. Usually larger waves are the result of stronger winds from the south, southeast, or southwest. So when the winds are light or out of the north, there really is little to no riptides.
ETA: Just think about all the water coming in from the larger waves, has to recede somehow and that's a riptide. So if there's not a lot of water pushed in, there's nothing that has to push back out.

We’re in perdido and the water is amazingly clear and calm.

Pretty sure that with the current el nino these irregular winds / currents may be around for a while.

You can go, just use common sense. If you have kids be really careful.

just stay inside the Florabama. Slay 40-60 cheatin' wives. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.
