Let's not award these kids because they are white.

Several schools in Virginia withheld national merit awards from students because they are white or rather not black.

Discrimination is wrong regardless of your politics. What those schools did should result in dismissed administrators and principals.

Good. These white kids should learn that we don’t get any awards. Just go to work and pay for everybody else’s stuff and get hated for it like all the other white people

Weird. I’ve only seen schools announce the individual students name. Guess this place added race when announcing?

So the VA governor is outraged at this, but is okay with the idea of removing the teaching of MLK from the elementary educational curriculum, but then includes it after getting caught trying to do the complete opposite.

There is a separate National Merit Scholar program for blacks. Of course, the criteria is much lower and these black students are still eligible for the regular National Merit Scholar program.
I wonder if any of these schools had a student who was a black National Merit Scholar but not a regular National Merit Scholar, and, if so, were they notified?
